Can I Visit Other JFK Terminals When Flying B6?

Fri Mar 10, 2006 10:49 am

Just a simple question about terminals at JFK. I have a 4 hour layover with B6 in the beginning of April, and (since I've never had more than an hour there before) I was wondering if anyone knows if I could visit other terminals at the airport, like T4 or the AA terminal, even though I'm flying on B6. This is probably a stupid question to ask, but I've never actually been able to explore an airport like this before because I avoid long layovers.
Any input would be nice. Thanks to those who reply  Smile!

I don't see why not, but you will not be allowed beyond the security check point as you are not ticketed for the terminal. I'm not sure about acess between the terminals.. but I don't think you can walk between them....

You can take the Air Train around to visit each terminal.

I would recomend you visit Terminals 1 and 4 because they are the nicest (IMO) and offer the most for passengers not flying out of that specific terminal.

Terminal 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9 don't offer much for passengers not travelling out of those terminals.

I can't speak for JFK, but at SLC and ATL after you're thru one of the security checkpoints, you can to all of the terminals/concourses.

Also at ORD and IAH, where I've had layovers, I've been able to go all over without having to go thru any security.

PanAm330, you can walk between most (probably all) of the terminals, although its not set up to be easily done. You can take the AirTrain though.

Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 have considerable space/shops/restaurants accessable I believe before you get to the security check point.

Last I knew though a couple of the terminals did not have much to offer and the check point was not far from the entrance. Hopefully someone more up to date on that will post.

The Airtrain at JFK is outside the security checkpoints. You cannot enter terminals without a valid ticket for a flight inside that terminal.

DFW has become much more "visitor friendly" now that their train operates inside the security checkpoint. I just recently had the opportunity to visit the new int'l terminal at DFW although I didn't have a flight there thanks to the new train.

Yes, you can get out from B6 terminal, take the AirTrain (which is free) and go first to Terminal 1, and go to the fast food area eatery on the 2nd floor and you can eat and get a great view!! Then proceed to Terminal 4 but the view here is not as nice as Terminal 1----you don't pass through security on both terminals.

Stupid question but which terminal would be best for spotting the heavies?

Or which terminal has the most international departures?

If you are a B6 crew member you have guranteed access to terminals 2,3,4,6,7,8 and 9 but at Terminal 1 they act a little funny to persons not belonging to any of thier airlines

With acess I mean beyond the checkpoint

 Confused
You certainly can enter the terminals without holding tickets. As with any airport, you cannot go past the security checkpoints, and not all of the terminals offer much to see, but entry into the terminals is possible.

Thanks for all of the replies, I appreciate it! I'll be checking out T1/T4 then! Any chance I can walk past T5, or not, because of the construction?

T5 is cordoned off to the general public but the Air Train is elevated and you can get an semi-aerial view of all the terminals. I suggest that you pick up something to eat at T4 and stay on on the train inter-terminal train. Don't even get off the train for T2 and T4 as the security check point is right by the entrance to terminals.

Oh yeah, that is true. All though it is still worth checking T4 out for the massive and beautiful check in area. You can also get a semi view of the T4 apron from the check in area.

jetBlue Operates from Terminal 4, so that means any jetBlue crew or employee have acess to the area beyond the checkpoint.

Again that is true. Although most of us sadly don't have that type of access beyond the check point areas. Although luckily enough for me tommorow I am flying Jet Blue to SJU out of T4 so I do get to go beyond the check point.

Sorry, meant to say T2 and T3. You get to quite a bit of T4 but the actual gate area is beyond security. Nice food court though.

Good! I'm glad they give you a hard time! JetBlue Terminal 6 is the only terminal I have ever been too that they required me to get a non-rev boarding pass to get through security.

They hassle crewmembers from every other airline except jetBlue. Nobody does that! It's inconvenient and unnecessary to hassle commuters like that.

Not T3, where the security is at the door (last I remember). You can get into T2, but the area outside security is so tiny it isn't really worth it.

JFK is set up similarly to LAX and BOS where it is more set up for O&D traffic and less so for connections. The terminals are independant of eachother and have seperate sterile areas.
