So what destinations will this aircraft serve? Just curious.

Should be New York and Toronto.
I am so excited. I would have preferred that Jat get a 763, but a 762 isn't bad at all.
Can't wait for pictures of it in the livery, configuration map, and the flights to be loaded.. (hopefully slated to fly)

Glad to see JAT back to the transatlantic arena. I used to see their DC-10s at O'Hare all the time back in the late 80's. I don't know what happened to them. I know that when JAT emerged after the end of the Balkan conflict, they only had one left. I assume it is not flying any longer.

I thought they were looking for 767-300ER'S. Was the lease rate to high, or y were they unable to find suitable aircraft?

FCKC,

Does it say what's YU registration? I could only get up to YU- part.

If this plane is going to be painted at Nimes, its predecessor, YU-AMB is awaiting its death there and will see its successor.

you are correct. 763s are currently extremely hard to find in the second-hand market. correspondingly, if you find one, the lease rates are very high.

after all, the aircraft leasing markets have picked tremendously over the last three years and the 763 is an aircraft quite sought-after.

I would assume the 762 is a better choice for an airline that has not flown long-haul flights to North America for almost 15 years. The last JAT operated long-haul flights was their regular service to Beijing in the late 1990s.

With the assumed introduction of JAT flights to Pearson Airport, will we be seeing competition on the Toronto - Belgrade route? Skyservice operated this route during the tourist season for the last two years. Kudos to Skyservice!

If the worst case scenario were to come true, JAT could always consider operating the 762 to Zurich, Paris, Dubai, Moscow and London.

As for our long loved YU-AMB, she will forever be remembered. This plane definately saw all corners of the globe in its proud JAT livery.

Skyservice was not very well known, and made a stop (was it Dublin?).
I don't think Skyservice will be chartered by 747 Travel this year, I expect 747 just to buy seats from Jat.

Congratulations to JAT Airways for returning to North America on its own metal. Their transatlantic service in the late 80s/early 90s was among the best, and I hope they will offer their passengers an inflight experience comparable to that of their European competitors.

Any news what cabin configuration is expected? IFE? When are flights expected to start?

As much as I personally would also like to see the DC-10 continue to fly, their time has passed and it's best to continue on with something newer. Good luck to JAT, and I hope they'll paint that 767 is something better than the current livery with the dots or the all white one.

With a few minor modifications (like removing the Yugoslavia, since what's left of Yugoslavia is now known as Serbia and Montenegro and changing the Airlines to Airways), this colourscheme would be much better.

There was a whole series of newly proposed liveries in JAT Review last year. I hope we would see something like this: http://www.cardatabase.net/modifieda...earch/photo_search.php?id=00004381

I could bet that this plane will not be white.

Well, I am really glad and can't wait to see that 762 arriving in BEG. Yes, 763 might be a good choice, too, but it is not too late to add some later.

Now, it will be much more difficult for JAT to enter the North American market than it was in 1970s when first 707s were leased in and now JAT will have to offer much more to its passengers. I was wondering if there's any A.netter in Nimes who can give us more details. First, I'm interesting to know more about the interior of the plane, configuration and IFE.

762 is a good choice and it can certainly be used to DXB, too. Maybe even some European destinations as well.

The 767-200 will receive JAT's new colours....

Your guess is as good as mine...

BTW, This aircraft operated for Polet and prior to that for AeroContinente and originally was an Air Seychelles machine.

How many is JAT getting? only one.
Anyone know if its GE or PW powered?

I guess its time for JAT to jump into the trans-atlantic market. Malev has a big chunk of the travellers from that region. JAT inflight product will have an important role if this service is to stay.

about the IFE, you will get a Jat Review magazine, and on top of that watching Jat crew is pretty enterntaining.....lol
jokes aside, i doubt there will be any PTVs, so teh good old main screen will do.but you never know.i hope Jat reoragnize their schedule so that pax arriving from north america can connect to middle east, Africa and some other destinations.and same on the return. Cant wait to see 767 in Jat colours.

i can just hear it " Dame i Gospodo, dobro nam dosli na ovaj Jat-ov let za Nju Jork......Mico, ajde molim te stavi jednu kaficu dok ja ne zavrsim ovaj anaunsement"....lol ok now i am just being sill.

If you're lucky enough...

The reason why I asked about IFE is because, again, competition is much tougher these days. If I could choose, and now I easily can, IFE is another important thing. Not the only one, of course. For example, if another airline offers the same price as JAT and has PTVs on board, they have some advantage and I wouldn't be surprised to find out that competition offers even cheaper tickets than JAT.

well thats true. i hope that the person at Jat responsible for entertainement onboard isnt the same as the guy in the 70 s.

i would too choose a airline with PTV s if i got teh similar deal. But most of Jat s pax are yugoslavs living abroad or friends and relatives visiting. And most of them couldent care less about the PTV s.
i wonder how their Business Class cabin will look like.

or this, that I genuinely heard abord a JAT plane last summer; "Kabin kru, arm ol slajds"......"Slajdovi armovani".

I am probably known as one of the harshest critics of everything JAT, but I must say that their service is not as bad as many people present it to be. The food is decent, the planes older but very mechanically safe, pilots excellent (puj, puj, puj). I flew with Malev, Balkan, Olympic, Alitalia and some other EU ailrines long-haul and stand by my opinion that JAT will not be better nor worse than your average European Airline on long-haul.

Nice making fun of JAT.
I'm pretty sure this will be a two-class plane, probably with a below-average business class (definitely not flat bed), with cheap business fares compared to AF/KL/LH/AZ/BA/....
and most of the seats will probably be Coach. Can't wait to get a flight on the 767. I assume that JU will want to use it for some charters to Bodrum, Sharm el Sheikh, or other destinations.

I suppose they will use the 767, but it will all depend on demand. Also, do not forget that during the last two or three years of her service, DC-10 had no real job at all with the exception of those weekly flights from SKP to ZRH for MAT and charter flights to Turkey were a good chance to take the old lady back into the skies even if it meant that she won't be full. In the case of 767s, if everything goes OK with FAA and flights to New York and Toronto start as planned, then there wouldn't be much time to squeeze additional charters, but time will tell.

Some news concerning Canada flights... http://www.b92.net/info/vesti/index....d=16&nav_id=191759&nav_category=11

In short, Minister of Human and Minority Rights, Mr. Rasim Ljajic, signed the readmission agreement with Ambassador of Canada H.E. Robert McDougall. Scheduled service between Belgrade and Toronto is made possible after this agreement was signed.

I would say that this is good news for Jat Airways.

A Balkan to North America nonstop would be great even if it is on JAT. I too am very negative about JAT but only because I mostly fly Austrian which is pretty good and Luftwaffe which is good. I hope they can improve their service and offer better regional service. I think we can naturally beat many airlines with lower prices and better service if the airline management decides it wants to be good and then does it.

...And I forgot to add that service BEG-YYZ is expected to start on June 1, 2006.

Jat Airways also needs US permission - FAA Category 1.

I know that BEG had an FAA inspection in December 2005, but no information leaked. There were some hints that negotiations (or whatever) are underway, and I hope Serbia will get Category 1. I've read somewhere (on the web) that it had it in 1998. I'm not 100% sure about this, but if it's true it proves that FAA rating depends on politics a lot. I just can't believe that requirements were met back then, and not today.

MrComet,

There is a good chance that SJJ will see better days with JAT very soon.

Another source (Yahoo group: yuspotters) claims that Jat Airways made a deal with Slovenian Adria Airways to wet-lease two CRJ-200 planes for a while, 'till the crews get trained, and then it would dry-lease two CRJ-700s.

And yet another cool information - Jat Airways' web site will have on-line reservation system in 2 to 3 months, and the source is their web master. I've heard that they were working on this issue very seriously (they signed some agreements), but this was the first confirmation.

This "June 1st" was part of the news, so I added it. I actually have no clue, but this is what I got from another website (Airwise.com):

Belgrade – Toronto – Belgrade (JU560 using B767-200ER)
Flights start June 1st.
18 seats in business 198 economy – 2 flights p/w
Departure BEG 10AM – Arrival YYZ 1PM
Departure YYZ 3.05PM – Arrival BEG 06.30AM

Belgrade – New York – Belgrade (JU500 using B767-200ER)
Flights start May 17th.
18 seats in business 198 economy – 3 flights p/w
Departure BEG 10AM – Arrival JFK 2PM
Departure JFK 4.10PM – Arrival BEG 7.30AM next day

Of course this one depends on FAA.

I think all this was obtained from JAT directly, but I really don't know for sure.

I know I won't be able to travel to New York (or Toronto) to spot the first real Jat Airways' flight to North America after 15 years. We should start convincing other spotters to make a few good shots for us. What do you think?

We should start convincing other spotters to make a few good shots for us.

It's a great idea. The problem is that I don't know many spotters/photographers from the US.

18 seats in business 198 economy

I've just checked Malev's 762 configuration and they carry 185 passengers in two classes. At first, I thought that JAT plane is going to be cramped, but then I've realized that there are 36 business seats.

I've flown on numerous B767s and I have to say Malev has one of the most comfortable ones. Its cabin and IFE is out of date and MA is not going to upgrade those features, instead they're leasing B767-300ERs soon.

Im happy about JAT starting trans-atlantic ops, it will add to the competition factor out of eastern Europe. Any word on how much the basic fare will be?

This is probably the best news in Serbian aviation since the air embargo was lifted! Having grown up in Chicago, I remember the pride of seeing a JAT DC-10 landing at O'Hare... it will be awesome to see them in North America once again.

It's been mentioned here already that they're planning ORD when they take their second 767, but any thoughts about PEK or other Chinese cities in light of the significant expat community in New Belgrade?

I can still vividly remember DC-10 landing every morning. It was some kind of ritual looking at her through my windows, packing books and going to school.

I guess my neighbors should get some kind of direct link from BEG. Having in mind the ammount of goods imported from China, JAT could do well even if it carried cargo only.

Ahhhh, the days....

But, all is not lost! With 762's coming, it will be interesting to see the destination mix they will be used on. Besides North America, resorts in Egypt and Turkey can well expect summer charters.

I wonder if KWI/DXB may get the 762 flights occasionally as well?

Aleksandre, something just crossed my mind. Remember in the early '90s when JAT was about to launch Johannesburg flights from Belgrade?

Perhaps JNB could be on the map for JAT? I remember reading somewhere that Balkan used to get some good loads and revenue on the SOF-JNB service thanks to the large ex-Yugoslav and Bulgarian community down there, using their leased 767's.
