Whats With The 4 767'S At MCI?

Tue Mar 14, 2006 12:44 pm

I have been to MCI twice in the past month and taxiing past the AA(old TWA)hanger, I noticed four 767's, with the names painted off and the tails clean(no logo). You can see AA stripes along the fuselege but cannot make out the N numbers. I have been told that when you see the names painted off planes its by request of insurance companies. Either the planes are no longer owned by the airline or the insurance is at the bare minimum.
Does anyone at MCI know the story behind the four 767's parked outside the hanger there?

AC has 1 for sure there having re-work done, and the "silver dart" 762 will be there shortly as well for re-paint.
You can't get there from here.

It's actually an AA (former TWA) overhaul facility -- so either AA is refurbishing the 767s or holding them there in the hopes of doing so. As TIMEAIR mentions, AC is outsourcing some of their work to this facility as well.

I'll be out at MCI twice over the next day or so --- will check it out during daylight and see if I can get a clearer answer.

I thought those were four of the ex-TW 763s that AA opted not to keep?

... that yours and my taxes are paying for to keep open! Not to mention AA gets to keep the "stay" money even though they still operate a skeleton crew over there.  Angry

But thats another thread.

If they were in AA colors they are not EX TWA 767, all ex TWA 767 are gone and done for. ANy 763 in AA fleet are pure AA birds.

I landed on runway 27 at MCI about 2 weeks ago and there was a Lockheed Jetstar sitting at the AA Maintenance hangar. Anyone know the story with it?

I know that TWA used to have one or two housed at MCI for Pilot training way back in the day, but I would be interested to know also.

Safe,
I believe these are going to Aeronavali in Venice, Italy for freight conversion. Since the program is delayed they still sit at MCI. A/C are owned by Cargo Aircraft Management in Orlando.

The articles I have read indicated that AA does a dominate number of maintenance on their 767's and 757's there at the facility. The facility is also going to start doing some work on RJ's for American Eagle.

AA 757 MX is done in Tulsa, not MCI.
That's why we're here.
