Airport With Most Movements By Type

Tue Mar 14, 2006 9:29 pm

Which airport has the most 737 , 747 etc movements

I would think LHR has the most 747 movements and maybe ORD is the king of 737 movements. does anyone have real numbers ?

What about all the other major type including classics like 707's and DC-8's ?

Yes, #1 and #2 in the US for MD80s.

Within the USA:

CRJs is ATL

LAS is B737s...close with PHX.

DEN for A319s

JFK for A320s

ORD for ERJs

DTW for DC9s

STL for Jetstreams

ATL - B767
LAX - B757
MEM - B727
ATL - B717
ANC - B747
ILN - DC8
MEM - DC10
MEM - MD11
SEA - Dash8

When ever I'm at JFK I get to see more B747's than A320's.

Don't just go by the main carrier. Jet Blue does not dominate the airport.

Only coz they're bigger  Smile

I wasn't going by carrier, but JetBlue does have over 100 flights into JFK I believe ... there isn't anywhere near 100 B747 flights...probably 40 or so.

ATL only has Delta 757s...albeit a lot, but LAX has AA,CO,DL,UA,DL,NW adding up to more I believe.

I doubt it. Counting the 757s at ATL I count more than 100 a day from DL alone. Then add in DHL and UPS and there's at least 150 daily 757s at LAX. Just for DL, CO, and NW at LAX I count no more than 40 daily 757s.

I would think that NRT would be the 747 heaven.
Not only do you have JL and NH, but UA, NW, CX, KE, SQ, BA, CI, Malaysian, QF and KLM. Probably forgot someone and some of those might have gotten downgraded to 340s or 777s but when I was up there last time All I saw were 747s. (NH and JL have many 747s over at HND as well).

MSP or DTW as DC-9 heaven.

Right, but you missed the 2 biggest B757 operators there...AA and UA!

AA has over 20, and UA over 40 bring the total to over 100.

I don't see any DHL or UPS B757s going to ATL (not daily anyway), so it's 100% DL.

It's not the king of 747s, but it is the king of airline variety...

Quoting Centrair (Reply 20):

That's what I was going to say... Before the opening of the second runway, 70% of NRT's movements were 747s. Now, with the second runway, there are more domestic/international flights operated by smaller aircraft, and 747s only make up 50% of the movements.

I just did a highly UN-scientific and dubious tally of 757 departures this afternoon from both LAX and ATL....
3 hour span, between ~1p and ~4p local time.

The big winner, with 16, to the following destinations:

MIA
LAX
BOG
SAN
TPA
RSW
LGA
PBI
MCO
LAS
MIA (Again already!)
PDX
DCA
JAX
PHX
PHL

On one airline.

Delta

@ Atlanta.

Oh, did I mention it was a tie?
Also with 16 757 departures in this exact same 3-hour period, to these destinations, on five different airlines (AA, DL, UA, MX, NW):

SFO UA
LIH UA
DFW AA
HNL NW
JFK UA
CVG DL
MEX MX
LAS AA
DTW NW
KOA UA
BOS AA
HNL UA
OGG UA
LAS AA
JFK DL
MSP NW

Say, when is NW going to get rid of those DC9s? Big grin

To say that in ATL you only see DL 757's means that you are talking about over 100 757's!!

You are also forgetting the DHL, UPS, occasional 757 by UA, NW and AA.

I think there is around double the number of B737 flights than A320s at PHX.
WN has 200 daily flights alone to PHX.

But, I correct by top B737 US city --- it's IAH --- I missed all the flights to Mexico for some reason  Smile
