Olympic 727's?

Tue Jun 06, 2000 9:28 am

I was just wondering if Olympic Airways ever had B727's.

Yes, they did. Supposedly one is on the tarmac in Athens near the recently retired 747s.

I think Olympic has a subsidiary charter-airline called Macedonian Airways, that still uses some 727's

Im pretty sure they did have them, because a man somewhere in the state of Washington has tuned one into a home! I can not find the website that documents his expierences for the life of me. Maybe someone out there can find the link for me its quite interesting. I think an article appeared in either airways or airliners a few months ago. Im im not mistaken it was a newly retired Olympic 727-200.

Yes they did have 727-200's, those were probably delivered in the mid 70's. They used to fly to Brussels from Athens on the 727 during the 80's and early 90's, I remember very well. Olympic no longer operates 727's, neither does Turkish.

OA got some (I can't remember, how many) 727-264 (non-advanced models) in the late 60's and operated them well into the Nineties.
In 1990, Olympic acquired three former LH aircraft (727-230(A)). They were called "the German ones" by the crews and flown on the mainline routes at least until 1998 (I saw one in DUS at that time). One of those three 727's was even operated as a VIP aircraft for the Greek government.
Two of them have been transferred to Macedonian Airlines, a subsidiary of OA, and are scheduled to be replaced by 737-400's, some of which already have arrived. I checked the online timetable late last year and they were operated on domestic routes on behalf of the mother company.

Hope this helps...

The reason I asked was because I recieved a bunch of safety cards from Olympic and I got a 727 one but not a 737-200 one (which the still operate) so I was wondering what was going on.

Thanks for all the info,
