thanks for the pics! i still cant make my mind up, though. from certain angles (such as side-on from a distance), it looks ugly. but from others, such as front-on or the angle that the first pic was taken from, its beautiful! shall have to wait and see it in person before i can fully judge i guess!

I always knew the engines were big but that last pic really shows their size! I can't wait to be a passenger on it.
Thanks for the pics!

I believe the planes will be painted in Hamburg, no? So maybe she will be painted while she is there.

Who's that one going to after certification?
I'll do my own airline. With Blackjack. And hookers. In fact, forget the airline.

Correct, painting and interior outfitting will be done in XFW. And should anyone ever order a private A380, it would be outfitted a few miles further northwest at HAM  Wink .

Those pictures were taken in Germany appearantly. In the last one you can see the sighn "Tor 2" which transalates to "Gate 2".

So that painting will be done soon, eh?

Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Problem is if HAM is ready to handle A380s right now, which I believe it isn't. So I doubt Lufthansa Technik Hamburg will be able to do such installations. It's either XFW or some other facility.

I hope it's soon. Those primer colours don't do the A380 any justice. Big grin

Actually,HAM is ready to handle the A380 (bar any regulations, of whose status(es) I'm not aware), as for one they are a diversion airport for XFW (should it ever happen that the weather at XFW is worse than at HAM  Wink ), but also because of said LHT facility. Now, the airport didn't widen their runways, but for 05/23, they handled the runway shoulder with a new type of lawn with a combo of a chemical (pretty much 'Sprhkleber') that keeps gravel, grass and other stuff from being ingested by the A380's engines.

Ah OK, I stand corrected then. Good to see that HAM will see some A380s every now and then.

But isn't there also an issue that Lufthansa Technik will not build a maintenance hangar at HAM? Maybe that's why I mixed up HAM and LHT being A380 ready. I only know that LHT in FRA will get an A380 maintenance hangar and eventually also MUC, but not HAM.

These pictures were taken outside Dock 1 Building 241 Airbus Hamburg.
Hamburg will see every A380 built...as they will all be painted and have IFE fitted here.

No, it is indeed true that LHT won't be building a new hangar for the A380, for reasons that first, there would be simply no room for an additional hangar, and second, the few A380 movements they expect would not be worth tearing down and replacing one of the existing hangars. As a compromise, LHT has bought an 'extension' for their hangars. Don't ask for the exact terminology, but it is a rollable hangar that can be put in front of either of LHT's hangars, so that A346s and A380s can be completely inside the hangar, which before that was not possible.

So, in other words a tent.
