Looks like MH will be suspending their MAN flights this May. Last MH's flight out of MAN is April 30.

BAMAN777:

It's not announced officially yet, and I doubt your travel agent knows that MH will be suspending their flights on April 30.

OdiE,

Has MH announced a list of destinations that will be discontinued or are being considered for discontinuation?

BA,

MH has announced a list of destinations that are under review. Manchester, Vienna, Xian, Ahmedabad, and Calcutta are the going to be the first few destinations that will be axed. Other destinations that are currently under review include Chengdu, Fukuoka, Zurich, Stockholm, Rome, Dubai, Istanbul, Cairo, and Beirut.

I was on MH658 from Singapore to Penang on Feb26th, there were only 15 people in the 737. May be they should cut that flight... Interestingly enough, there was an SQ flight (B777) running on the same route 10 mins ahead of MH flight, and it had a very healthy load.

SQ will increase SIN-PENvv to 3 times daily. The load is indeed very healthy.

That's quite a long list... I always thought MH was a wealthy carrier.

Was the A380 usefull in that case ??

Is MH losing grip and cash on Intercontinental traffic or have they suffered from Air Asia in SE Asia ?

Correct, the flights are no longer available for booking on the MH website. It now says "Flights are not available on these dates"  Sad A real shame!

MH is selling 30 of its aircraft, which is a massive percentage of their fleet. 12 or more 744's are expected to go!  Sad

MH will also loose two A330's to VN!

There seems to be trouble in paradise for MH...66 of the airlines international routes are unprofitable while 48 are profitable and of its 118 domestic routes, 114 are unprofitable!

Thx Rob, I wasn't aware of such a bad situation.

A shame they will get rid of Jumbos that have been recently retrofitted with new F & C class seats.

Are they keeping all their 777s ?

I believe that MH has the wrong aircraft. I flew MAN-SYD last September, MH had the chapest flights but with a 4/week schedule from MAN it was no good as I had to fly on certain dates. The MAN route would do better with a daily B772 instead.

I wasn't either, until recently  Smile

It seems they will loose at least one 777, which is going to Air India.

I totaly agree, ever since MH started their 744 services I've wondered why they havn't flown the 777 insted. Personaly It makes more sense to me.

Perhaps it's because the SQ flight shows up on the CRS first before the MH flight does, it being five or ten minutes earlier... and perhaps it also has to do with the fact that the connecting traffic at SIN will go onto the SQ flight rather than the MH.

Which leads me to a question - what effect does the codeshare number on the MH flight have?

With Manchester - I think MAS was limited to a maximum of 4x week as the UK CAA adds its Heathrow services into the total number of flights allowed by MAS into the UK. With MAN now being axed - we may see MH7/8 going daily to compete head on with SQ on the London route. The other thing about the 744 - I think MAS would have operated the 777 if it had the aircraft availability.

MH could not get the trim right to fly the 777 out of MAN hence why they have used 744's, and I have been told that the only routes that MH will be keeping is FCO and FRA,

What do you mean by getting the trim right?

So LHR's 18x weekly flights will go, I highly doubt it! (Or do you mean Europe MH 772 flights?)

I hope ARN, ZRH and EWR don't get the chop  Sad
