Jet Biplane

Sun Mar 19, 2006 4:26 pm

This may seem crazy, but why aren't their jet biplanes? The possibilites for a STOL aircraft using 2 wings are endless. Granted, they would be slower, but in the hot and high transport or covert opperations, they would be useful.

What are the problems with a jet powered biplane?

Thanks!

There is one jet biplane, though I'm not sure if it's still flying - the PZL-Mielec M-15 cropduster. Most pics in the db are of static, museum pieces.

Photographer comments from various shots of the a/c say it's maximum speed was 200 km/h, which would be about 108 knots, which is not the speed at which jets, versus props, excell. Plus, jets use more fuel than props and with a drag-inducing airframe like that of the M-15, it's fuel economy must have been interesting at the very least.
No plane, no gain.
