AS 737-200

Sun Mar 19, 2006 11:34 pm

Hi,

as I might visit Alaska this summer I would like to find out more about Alaska's 737-200s (and, board one, if possible).

I understand that those lovely little pigs are to be replaced by 737-400 Combis.

When is this going to happen?

What routes do the -200s fly on?

Cheers

The -200Cs do most of the flying intra-state. Since they can be configured for pax and cargo they are invaluable to the smaller communities like OTZ, OME, BET, BRW, CDV, etc.

You can just get a great feel for a -200 if you wanna take one of the AS milkruns that hops from Southeast Alaska up to Anchorage . . . if they still use the -200Cs there.

If not, take a hop up to Barrow or over to Bethel and back . . .
AS143 or AS145 . . .

AS41, AS43, AS45 . . .

That's the best way to see a -200C. You can also get some decent shots at ANC, as you approach the Terminal, the AS-200Cs are parked remote next to gate C9 . . . often with cargo door open, etc.

Checkout AlaskaAir.com and search for Anchorage to Nome, Bethel, Kotzebue, Barrow . . . those routes see a lot of the -200Cs

If you decide to visit Alaska, drop me a note. I'll be glad to send you an Anchorage Visitor's Guide - and play host if I'm in town.

Thank you,

as the 737-200 is my all time favourite I try to fly them once a year - something that is getting more and more difficult.

It is still unsure if I visit Alaska but the possibilty of seeing, picturing and flying the rocking -200s is certainly very tantalizing and tempting (the alaskaair.com timetable shows they are in operation by summertime).

Cheers
