Can Rejected And Out Of Business Liveries Be Bough

Wed Jun 07, 2000 1:53 am

Is sad that some really good designs have to be wasted when an airline goes out of business or the design is not incorporated like in the case of Air India, and Canadian airlines new scheme which is going to disappear, shouldnt there be some way of selling the designs to others like new start ups, in the case of Delta airlines i think they themselves should sell their new livery to Aeroflot the Russian airline because their design is exactly that of the Russian flag.

Well..that's not a bad idea.....this will teach Russian about captialism...they have to learn to pay for the livery if they ever buy it from Delta.

AI's short-lived "Sun" livery was nothing but an elaborate scam by the then Managing Director Rajan Jetley to divert as much cash as he could towards his preferred vendors in order to maximize his kickbacks.

Why ANYONE would want that horrendous scheme stumps me!

Well, I'm not sure about the liveries part, but airline logos sure as heck can be.

Pan Am's globe, for one, was purchased by a seperate entity to run on PAII, first run by old PA hand Marty Shugrue. The livery happened to go with it, and it has survived to the present with PAIII.

The National sun logo also was purchased, apparently, as I saw years ago in an ad that Key Air was running charters using it. They were later bought out by World, if I'm not mistaken.

This is quite a good idea - I'd love to start up BOAC again with the old livery.....cool!

Anyone know how Save-A-Connie got permission from TWA to paint their Lockheed Constellation in original TWA colours? That is ONE AWESOME-LOOKING plane. A great example of an old livery used by a company other than the airline.

In reply to wishihadalife I would say someone with a sense of style should.

Although that experimental Air India livery was not popular, had the titles been done better, the red sash livery would not have been as bad as it was. Although I personally like the "Palace" livery better, I will say the red sash could have done some good, maybe they should bring it back and apply it to Indian Airlines with some modifications (orange sash instead of red, and different title styles) of course. By the way, I thought that the graphic was a stylized "Wheel of Ashoka" as found on the flag and not a sun.
