Wasn't there a scarlet lady already? I also heard that at least one of the A380's has been named

I have G-VHIP reserved for one aircraft according to my records. Is this correct and what's she going to be called?

When is G-VFIT 'Dancing Queen' due?

i love the VS regs and names! very fun, in keeping with the airlines' image. im sure that 'lady bird' and 'scarlet lady' are already used on other a/c. are these a/c leaving the fleet? maybe scarlet lady was one of their 343s?? its good that they are keeping the name on, as the scarlet lady is the virgin mascot!

According to them G-VBUG will be named Lady Bird (note separate words) and is a February 2007 delivery. Whether this will replace the 747 or co-exist with it (as different registration and different spelling) I don't know.

Perhaps they'll just switch Ladybird/Lady Bird over to the more appropriate G-VBUG reg. and give G-VAST another moniker. It seems highly unlikely that VS would have two of its fleet have such closely matched names, unless SRB has a thing for the little beetles...

Haha, s'alright, you had me a little worried there when you brought up "747" and "retire".  worried

Now the question is, if VS is just pulling a switcheroo, what'll we see on G-VAST? Ideas, anyone?

Actually, this got me thinking: has VS ever switched around a/c names before? Or any airline for that matter? If I remember correctly, Pan Am did that on several occasions, but I can't think of any specific examples.

Angelairways,
Thanks for the info! I just love the names! VS keeps having fun with those names, literally!
Say, would you know anything about A340-300 G-VSUN, whereabouts, and when will it be flown to Nigeria? Also any specific dates for the transfer of the other remaining 343s to VK (3 and 4 of 4)?
If there is a will, there is a way

They did, one of the most notable was N738PA "Clipper Maid of the Seas" destroyed over Lockerbie Scotland in December 1988. She had been "Clipper Morning Light" earlier in her career.

Many mariners consider renaming a ship something of a bad omen, maybe they have something there!!

Chris

Post Script, looking thru the database and clicking on the reg of Pan Am A/C it seems this was a fairly common thing at that airline.

Wow, I did not know that. Truly sad.

It certainly seems that way. I went to PanAm.org and found a list of Clipper names (scroll down to the Text Navigation Menu, it's in the first column) which includes previous name manifestations. Looks like most of the Clippers switched up the names and quite frequently, too.

BA renamed their TriStars. When delivered they were named after Roses. Later renamed after Bays. When the TriStar 1s moved to BA subsiduary Caledonian they were named after Lochs.

BA's 747-136s were originally named by BOAC after famous Elizabethans. Under BA they were named after UK cities and then when the city names were reused on the 747-436 fleet they were named after English lakes and inland waters. Some 747-236Bs named after major UK cities were renmed after other UK cities so that the name could be reused on a 747-436.

G-VHIP was down for delivery in October 2006. As G-VRED is now due for October 2006 I guess the registration G-VHIP is not being used now, at least on this aircraft.

G-VFIT Dancing Queen is due in May 2006 I believe.
