Aloha Airlines 737-700 At SNA Today!

Wed Jun 07, 2000 8:03 am

I SAW AN ALOHA AIRLINES 737-700 AT SNA TODAY! IMMMMMMMM SO EXCITED!!! ITS HTE FIRST TIME ANY ALOHA AIRLINES JET HAS TOUCHED DOWN AT ORANGE COUNTY! I THINK IT WAS ON PROVING FLIGHTS FROM HAWAII OR OAKLAND!!! IF I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN THERE 5 MINUTES LATER I WOULD HAVE MISSED IT!! IT WAS PERFECT TIMING!!! WE WERE STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT and I noticed a plane comming in for a landing. At first I thought it was a CO 737-700...then I thought it was HP   THEN I SAW THE ALOHA AIRLINES TITLES!!! The plane was totally empty   Didnt see anything in the windows and it looked brand new!
It landed, stopped for a few minutes on the taxiway...then went and took off. I didnt see it grab any fuel so I am pretty sure it wasnt on a proving flight from hawaii. Who knows though!!! I am so excited! I got like 20 shots of it alone!!! What PERFECT TIMING!! im sooooo excited!! It was a beautiful plane!

bTW, I think it was N738AL..I forgot the reg. number as soon as I drove away from the airport hehe

Probably, the Boeing piilots are testing flight for short runway and weight evaluation for long haul flight. Maybe, if FAA permission for SNA serves to Hawaii in the future. I don't know for sure.. I just assumed this about it.   Great news that you caught it in SNA.

Aloha did state that they planned to start SNA-HNL or OGG sometime in 2000! I will be on the inagural flight if they do

That would be great for Aloha to serve SNA-HNL. The market is certainly big enough! 3 mil+ people in Orange County area alone! Let me know when you post the pics!

Cool. I cannot imagine though begin very comfy on
a six hour flight seated in such a smallish jetliner.
Although, fewer passengers probably means less
noise, etc...

I have seen photos of the interior of the Aloha
Airlines 73G (737-700). Very tacky. It might be
worth the drive up to LAX and flying a United
777 or 767-300 instead.

I just got off the phone with an Aloha Airlines representative, and she said that there's nothing official yet, but they do expect service sometime to start sometime in the next year.

Nonstop SNA-HNL off a 5700' runway? Hmm, that should be interesting. I think the 757 is better suited for this type of short runway operation, in my opinion. Using a 73G, even though the engines are uprated for ETOPS, I can see weight restrictions occuring, a good percentage of the time. Any pilots out there care to add your expert opinions on the 737-700 performance limitations?

Winair sorry to burst your little bubble it was doing that all day! We can confirm them doing it over 5 times. We think they are getting checked out in it out of SNA before they start service some time in the near future. Just to let you know if you probably saw me in a small 152 there! Maybe not as exciting!
