RobK, how do you find out such information? Do you know someone that works at BFI or is there a website that gives such information? I have trouble just finding normal arrivals/ departures times at my local airport.....  Sad

I do have a handful of people-in-the-know but for this particular movement, I just happened to be browsing the BFI movements past and planned for today and there it was! I knew it had ferried PAE-BFI yesterday as BOE002 which was an indication it was due to deliver pretty soon.

You can view the last months worth of movements at Boeing on my web page at http://www.selcalweb.co.uk/boeing.htm

So, does this mean Boeing has no test airframe left of the 772LR since they delivered both to PIA?

It's not a 'weak shot' if you ask me and in this case especially, it's warranted. It's the same PIA aircraft.

Of course we will never know how much they paid coz Boeing doesn't want taht info to go public but you can bet they got a heck of a deal on them. They launched the aircraft plus they didn't even get brand spanking new ones.

I will bet they got them for the same price they paid for previous 772ERs minus some extra discount for the flight test wear on the frames (though likely the engines have been completely overhauled and every system completely refurbished, but the frames themselves are still burdened with 100s of flight hours.)

By selling them to PIA for the same price they would have had to pay for a two more 772ER, it meant they got a better, more efficient plane without any risk. Just my opinion.

interesting figure you came up with, sounds plausible...I think it would be somehwere between what they paid for their -200ER's and some number for the -200LR.....

so I guess this thread answers part of my question...

"Which airline(s) use(s) the 777 200 lr??", because I have been looking through the data base of pics and I only see the dream liner ones..so I figured no airline was actively using it yet.. I guess I only see an option for (777-200 but not the lr option on the search engine)
..so, was I wrong in thinking this is the very first-second delivery??? which means PIA are the first??

on a side note, I am a huge airbus lover..but I would like to comment that this is Boeing's baby...In my opinion this is Boeing's sweetest aircraft..I wish someday I can fly in it!

cheers

And only. Only 2 772LR exist in the world, and as of tonight, PIA has both in service.

No other 772LR is even in the pipeline, though AC will be getting them within a year, so there should be some parts out there that are built and earmarked for 772LRs. Just no official build of any more 772LRs has begun.

o wow dude, I was not aware of that at all, I assumed they were already "mass producing them"....
why is this?? is it. I mean I know it is Boeing's latest aircraft (that has been built) but it seems to have been a while since the going the distance tour....
maybe for aircraft, the time scale of events is longer than what I am aware of...

because they hadn't sold any! EVA had ordered 3 but looks to be rethinking that. Up until EK and AC, nobody else had ordered them. AC is taking them starting 2007, I think EK the same.

But not to worry. The line is building 773ER and 772ERs slower than airlines want them, so there is no dead air.

And I can assume that some parts for the AC 772LRs are already in the pipeline.

Still, I've never seen a huge demand for this model. If they break 50 delivered, it will be a major accomplishment, which is one reason the design cost is shared with the 777F and 773ER programs.

AI have purchased a few, BR is probably going to change their planes from the 777-200LR to the 777-200F...they haven't cancelled their order outright..

AF has also purchased the 777-200F (which you've stated correctly as the -200F/-300ER costs)....nonetheless, frames sold are frames sold...so that's good..

SQ is a potential customer and if Boeing could put it all together, QF also might jump in...but that's speculation..

regardless, the -200LR will do fine and should pay off for itself

So far the total stands at 35 from the five airlines mentioned above, not counting the 23 777F's. They're getting close to 50.

that makes sense, in the spirit of this statement, what are the major structural differences between the lr and the other 777. I know that they have those cool wing tips..but are there other major design changes??? or is it all performance improvements??

Wouldn't a 777LR make more sense for LAX to Pakistan than for YYZ? Or JFK? 777-200ER can make it from there to LHE Or ISB? What is PIA's reasoning for this?

I think its because of better operating economics...as anything over 5000nm, the -200LR does better than the -200ER..

I mentioned on some other thread that reading in an aviation magazine, that the Chairman of PK, Tariq Kirmani stated that the -200LR will offer anywhere between 15-20% better economics over their -200ER's..

on a side note, they shall be receiving their -300ER's in December.. biggrin

fair use excerpt:

"Airline Takes Delivery of Airplane That Broke the World's Distance Record

- PIA Will Be First Airline to Fly the Entire 777 Family With 777-300ER Joining Fleet in Dec.

SEATTLE, March 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Pakistan International Airlines celebrated the delivery of the carrier's second 777-200LR yesterday at Boeing Field. U.S. Rep. Tom McDermott of Washington served as guest speaker at the handover ceremony for PIA's newest airplane.

Scott Carson, Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice president of sales, led the Boeing team in congratulating PIA Chairman Tariq Kirmani and his top management for their vision in becoming the launch customer for the world's longest-range jetliner.

"We are very proud to be a part of PIA's future as it operates a family of airplanes that will link Pakistan to the rest of the world and that will provide the first direct links between the United States and Pakistan," Carson said.

Later this year, PIA will take delivery of its first 777-300ER, making it the first airline in the world to operate the entire Boeing 777 family. "

Hmm, the "entire 777-family" consists of 772,772ER,77F,772LR,773 and 77W.
With PIA only flying 772ER, 77L and 77W it is NOT the entire family!!!  Wink

oh that would be interesting.....now they have to work on getting their fleet route proper....

they have to focus on their high-yielding routes and competition.......with ISB/LHE/KHI..it might be difficult for PK to make them all as hub cities.....

Well Karachi has always been the defacto hub for PIA. But from someplaces they market adjust it. Example from UK you would see that mostly ISM focused and with some LHE and KHI, this is due to high % of Punjabis. From JFK you see also high number of LHE flights that could be because of many people from that region of pujab.. but those flights continue on to KHI also. But ORD/IAH you see mostly KHI due to high # of people from Karachi. So I guess PIA's really do not have a hub even though they claim they do.

So I guess PIA's really do not have a hub even though they claim they do.

interesting...I know what you mean..as my mother frequently flies ORD-MAN-LHE-KHI..........

With ORD/IAH only a totaly of 3x/weekly and 4x/weekly during peak season (the additional IAH flight), it seems most of their business though is to either ISB/LHE.....

but of interest.......

MAN-KHI got a 51% increase in the total number of passengers in 2005 (while MAN-ISB/MAN-LHE got 3% and 1% increase respectively).....so that does say there is a money to be made on the USA-MAN-KHI route...

http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/80/airport...tl_Air_Pax_Route_Analysis_2005.pdf

in the end...I guess your right..no real "hub" for PK.....interesting situation they are in...

if they bloody make their airports nicer and more efficient for pax, they can just have one "basic" hub (such as either ISB or LHE) and connecting flights to that hub, with KHI a "focus" city......kind of what AA has with DFW and ORD......

a "focus" city

I think all 3 big cities in Pakistan is a focus city for them. On a side note is there a possibilty of PIA starting MEL? I seriously doubt it there is that mnot uch Pak population in Aussie , it is very very limited and not more than 10-19K total if that. Also most of them there are students who usually go there as an alternative since US is quite strict now. And UK is not that easy either.

PS: Nice to see PIAs 777 flying to more airports than just MAN and ORD,IAH,YYZ in the summer!

......but heavily ironic that AP-BGZ's first westbound revenue service, supposedly non-stop to JFK had to drop in to...... MAN........ yesterday, for refuelling !

here are some routes which PK were planning back in Sept. 2005...it lists Australia as "SYD/MEL"...........I dont think they would do it a direct flight, but rather through some other city using their freedom rights.

"The plan envisages expansion of PIA's network whereby PIA would be serving all the five Continents by the end of the planned period. The destinations to be added to the PIA routes include Glasgow, Los Angles, Johannesburg, Rio de Janeiro, Melbourne/Sydney, Cairo, Damascus, Baghdad, Tehran, Istanbul, Zurich, Shanghai, Seoul, Almaty and Madrid/Barcelona."

from what I remember, RIO has lots of cargo, so it might be profitable even without a large pax count....

Rio de Janeiro, Melbourne/Sydney

Might be the ones that might be little far fetched. But you never know with PIA. Lets see them start LAX first.

I thought the 772LRs could make Pakistan-JFK nonstop pretty easily?
Perhaps PIA should get some A340-500s?  stirthepot  duck
