General Electric Performs First Test GENx Engine

Fri Mar 24, 2006 3:04 pm

General Electric started up the new generation GEnx turbofan for the first time on Sunday at its test site in Ohio and was getting close to max thrust during subsequent runs on Monday. The engine is scheduled to begin flight tests on the 787 around a year later.

I wonder how many hours they will test the engine and what types test they will perform? If this thread already exist please delete it.

RR also did their first test of the Trent 1000 engine on Feb 14th. I was not aware that the RR engine was to be the Launch engine I would have thought for sure the GE GENX would be.

Video of test:

ANA is RR, and so likely will be the China planes, though i can't confirm that. ANA and China will get the first few planes, though JL will also get early jets and they are GE. QF haven't finalized their order, but I assume they would be RR as well, right?

Wait, wasn't CO the N. American launch Customer? Or was it NW?

I believe CO placed their orders first, but NW's delivery slots and entry into service are sooner - the 787s were a stand alone deal for NW, whereas the 787s were part of a bigger deal with CO (who, along with DL and AA- are abiding by exclusivity agreements with B)
