A380--Mechanical Door Opening?

Fri Mar 24, 2006 10:57 pm

Hi all,
I saw this video on Google:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3286325412142013280
and noticed that after the door handle was moved up, a button could be pushed that would open the door mechanically (and the reverse for closing the door).

This is the first time I have heard of such door operation. Will this be standard on the A380? If so, will it be standard for all doors, or just the main boarding doors (and what doors would those be)?

Wasnt it mentioned in another A380 thread that the A320 had a similiar system on a couple of its doors?

I believe the 767 has this (or a similar system) fitted - I have seen it used on BY B763s before.

Must have been in FXW . The guy says something like
" mal kucken wann er dann einrastet" (lets see when it (door) locks in place/engages )

There is one problem with airbus. Though their products are engineering marvels they lack passion, completely.

Along with the DC-10 and MD-11. Powered doors are usually used on up-and-over type doors, where the door slides upward inside the roof of the fuselage. On the 767-200 door 1L is powered. On the -300, 1L and 2L are powered. I'm not too sure about the other doors though....

Ok, I checked the AMM for the A380, and in the Doors paragraph, it is indeed mentioned that they are electrically operated (all of them).

Even though there would be an electrical shutdown, they are easily operated by hand.

Looks like the Jean-Luc Lagardère factory behing in Toulouse, where A380s are made Big grin

Sorry, I should have clarified that this is the first time I've heard of the mechanical door for the A380, not planes in general.  Wink
