Aviation And Background Checks.

Sat Mar 25, 2006 11:08 am

I'm currently in flight school, and my instructor and I were talking the other day about how when accepted to a flight school you have to do a background check for the TSA. Very understandable with what we are being faced with in the global environment today...What I am interested in is, who does the background check? It almost kind of freaks me out, I put my social security number out there for just anyone to take? Do the flight schools, and even airlines handle the background checks themselves, or just pass them on to a third party agencey that specializes in performing a background check? Also, how much does an employer know about me? Does the check return them with a bunch of crazy data like who my parents are, where I graduated high school and so on? There's a lot of information out there in today's world, and I would like a little piece of mind knowing who is handling it around. Don't know about anyone else, but I've signed a few things for background checks in the past...but have never recieved any word there after. Thanks in advance!

When i got my pilots license I didn't have to have a background check. However when I applied for access to the AOA I had to be fingerprinted and those were then sent to the FBI for background check.

well I know the employer has you fill out information, then the information is simply sent to a third party that performs the check...Im still very interested what the do with my information after the check! Its wierd thinking a social security number is out there for just any yahoo that make 8.70/ hr to look at. Still not to concerning to me, however it would be kind of nice to know! thanks!

Fly often on NWA and presto! you are profiled like a criminal! Background info on who you are and what you are all about.... Passport info and cross checks with the Feds to see what kind of pax you are. I was pulled out of line Pryor to boarding NWA 001 in LAX and escorted over to a counter at the gate and requested to present my passport for scanning AGAIN! I had just done this at the check in counter while checking my bags not 15 min before.I Asked what was going on, and the disgruntled agent told me his Co. was in the cat and mouse business...... and he was sick of it and for working for NWA. And after forty years flying the red tail, so am I.
