Emirates Landing & Parking Fees At DXB

Sat Mar 25, 2006 8:31 pm

Emirates continually asserts that they don't get any special treatment (in form of free or cheap fuel, ...) at Dubai Airport compared with all the other airlines landing at DXB.
However, when having a look at the website of Dubai International Airport:

http://www.dubaiairport.com/DIA/Engl...bout+DIA/Airside/Airfield+Charges/

you can see in the paragraph "Exemptions and Reductions" that all royal, diplomatic and state owend aircraft are fully exempted from landing and parking fees. As Emirates Airline is 100% government owend, logically their planes are also government owend, and so they are state aircrafts. As a consequence, Emirates wouldn't have to pay any landing and parking fees at all at DXB.

Do Emirates aircrafts really fall under the category of state aircrafts? If so, this would be a huge disadvantage for the foreing airlines landing at DXB, albeit DXB is a relatively cheap airport as far as airport taxes are concerned.

Maybe by state aircraft they mean aircraft flying on behalf of a country and not a commercial flight?

the ex PIA UAE Country Manager from 1994-97 is my friend and he told me that during his time there, PIA paid US $ 3500 per landing of an A 300B4 in DXB where as in SHJ-Sharjah it was US $ 1800 per landing i.e. 50% less.

SHJ is wayyyyyyy cheaper, and that's why it attract's Cargo and Tech-stop's.

DXB offers a unique deal to most airlines: Block Purchase Fees.

Pay for 10/100/1000 landings and get 5% off.

Probably find that EK have taken the 1000 option and got a bit more off.

Of course, there are many airports that are cheaper than DXB, but compared to other big airports frequented by the main long-haul airlines like LHR or FRA, it's a bargain at that price.
