Oneworld/Star Alliance/Sky To Pax

Sun Mar 26, 2006 3:34 am

Ok, first and foremost, sorry if this has been discussed a million times before. Just ignore it and push me in the right direction.

I was just looking at one of the Star Alliance liveries of an ANA 773, (photo I.D. 1021932) and thinking if Joe Public see's this a/c, what's he going to think?

Now if I am correct, these groups can provide services to pax in between all alliance members and operate similar services etc. (please correct me if not, or say if there is more to it)

What does this livery mean to someone with not much interest in the background of Carrier politics and operations? If say, they were about to board this a/c, could it not just confuse them about which airline they are flying with? I know each carrier has their name somewhere viewable, but it is definately not as 'in-your-face' as the Star Alliance billboard title.

Is it advertising the Star Alliance product? How many people know or care about these groups?

just a thought.

It's alliance politics.

Same as codeshares.

Most of the public buy a ticket and expect to fly that airline, not another carrier with xxx amount of flight numbers for xxx amount of airlines.

Never mind......there's more important things in life.....

AHHHHHHHHHHHH out of beer.

Funny you should say that. LH572 from FRA-JNB (this morning) was D-ABTH (B744) in Star Alliance colours. I was in the Domestic Terminal's observation area, which BTW is really great, when the man standing next to me, murmured to his wife: "We should try out Star Airlines". I almost swallowed my tongue. Big grin

Well, try flying LH on thinner German domestic routes. You hardly get LH metal, it's all EW, IQ, even EN..

Thats exactly the kind of situation I was thinking of originally, someone mistaking it for a carrier.

Also relevant. Are EW, IQ and EN all members of Star Alliance? In a way they are doing some of LH's Domestic 'dirty-work'...

I realised after these relpies how open this thread is to input. Oh well, the more the merrier!

I would imagine most passengers don't give a d@mn.......other than those interested, FF members, people in the industry, and people on round-the-world trips or itineraries like EZE-GRU-JNB-SIN-SGN or something like that.

Although I do know a surprising number of people who understand the concept.....

EW is controlled (not owned) by LH, IQ is a subcontractor (whatever that means) and EN is a part of LH group. I don't know what that entails with regard to their relation to Star Alliance.

For Star Alliance, I believe it means that they are counted as part of Lufthansa. Isn't IQ part of the LH group as well?
