Hello everyone. A friend of mine and I are hoping to take a trip around the world in late November of 2006. Both of us will be participating in study abroad programs this upcoming semester from our school in the USA, I will be going to Brisbane Australia and my friend to South Africa. We are planning on meeting in Australia or New Zealand and starting the trip from there.
I was hoping that someone here could help me determine the best Around the World program to use for our needs. As of right now, the plan is to start in Australia or New Zealand, move north/northwest up to Asia, then west across to Europe and finally back to the United States. I know that Sky Team, oneworld and Star Alliance all offer these types of trips but I would have no problem using a travel agent either. Oneworld quoted me a fare of USD$4,800 but Qantas shows a 4 continent fare on their website of USD$2,700 (I think the trip might have to originate in Australia for this fare but I was quoted from the USA.) I would also be willing to try either the Asia or Europe-pass that all of the alliances offer. Any comments from those who have tried these programs or suggestions from anyone would be very helpful.
Additionally, if anyone has suggestions for cities that are must-sees for someone who has never been to Asia or Europe, please share!
