Wasn't at the airport but saw the BA 772ER on finals to AKL at about 1645 local.

Funny how rare it is to see BA at AKL. I think a few years back or so BA did service AKL. Now they stopped with MEL and previous to that Perth. With SYD only one there I believe its a matter of when no if before BA withdraws from the Australian continent. I am guessing new competition like EK and other might be part of the reason for moving out.

Planetime, I agree.....in fact, I've mentioned previously on other threads that I wouldn't be surprised to see BA leave the Autralia scene altogether......

there is too much competition there, and a few carriers are going to be using the A380 for the Kangaroo route......which will add a lot of extra seats....

This would be the second time a BA B772 has been seen in NZ. Last time was in WLG in 2001 when the Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh arrived.

If BA withdraw from SYD then it won't really be a JSA agreement that it has in place with QF will it? I think for now SYD is fairly safe. What we won't see is BA operating to anywhere else in Australia, or returning to New Zealand.

After NZ, that BA 777 that Blair is using is going on to Indonesia, somewhere else that hasn't seen BA metal for a few years now.

Well, I tried to take, But sadly failed. The air plane is no where to be seen. I think it is parked at some place where we cant see it from the public viewing place. I wasted my time going to air port just to see the BA 777 !!!

I managed to take 2 pics from airbridge on Gate 8 with my cellphone, but it was far away and low res.

As to where it was parked... It was parked at remote stand #82 which is approx halfway between the intl terminal and the QF domestic terminal and is normally used for either the Cargolux 747F or the Atlas Air 747F (NZs cargo service). Often TG (A340) park up there when they have a longer layover at AKL before being towed onto Gate 6.
AKL%20Map.htm" target=_blank>http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~airdata/AKL%20Map.htm if u want a map. Due to the last extension of the intl checkin counters that gate is now not visable from the main carpark at all. If a 744 is parked there you can usually see the top of the tail however.
