Well, they only have 2 777-200LRs. I think they might opt for Chicago non-stop first before IAH. (the first one is on JFK).

Also, does the 747-200 in IAH mean one of their 777-200ERs are in heavy maintenance? IAH has almost always been the 772ER.

How is this route doing anyway.....does anyone know.....I sat in the adjacent gate a couple of weeks ago and the number of people sittign there 1/2 hour before departure and it looked empty.
When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No-one has ever collided with the sky.

Toronto got the first non-stops, actually. Started in early March.

Starting on March 25th until the end of the year, PIA will now be operating a B742 into IAH.

All hearsay speculation about the performance of PIA at IAH should be taken with a grain of salt. Only the folks at PIA know how well the route is performing. But based on the recent upgrade to the 747 comb I can only speculate that the route is doing as good as could have been anticipated or maybe even better than anticipated.

Unlike the European carriers, I don't believe that this is a flight that is targeting the energy sector. As any travelers bound for the Persian Gulf would have to back track Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other countries of interest in the region, when it would be more convenient to connect via London, Paris. Amsterdam or Frankfurt. More to the point if this were being marketed to the energy crowd, I suspect that there would have been some form of campaign advertising this service.

Quoting Cospn (Reply 7):

I believe that is the prime reason for their IAH (and ORD) service. Both cities have sizable Pakistani populations.

I am certain others more knowledgeable will weigh in on this and correct any mistakes that I may have made.

their first route was YYZ-Pakistan 3x/weekly...they also use the other one on their JFK route......

ORD will still see the -200ER for ORD-MAN-Pakistan...

the route actually isn't doing too well from what I know...that is why they brought the combi in, so that they can haul some extra freight over the -200ER/LR.......I've heard that besides peak season, this route doesn't do all that well

ORD has done quite well, and in fact, this is the first time in a few years since restarting the route where they kept it at 2X/weekly.......

Any reason for this poor performance there, other than poor advertising. Hopefully they will not follow this on their new route to LAX.

The only thing I can think of is poor advertising--because CO/EK as well as the euro carriers do quite well in transiting passengers to Pakistan. People just don't know they exist here in Houston. I welcome the 742 though as IAH widebody rotations are pretty much 777 dominated -- Meanwhile I hear that CI is doing pretty good here.

They obviously have to match the aircraft to the route, but if you've ever been on one of PK's 74M's, it's not going to do much to boost customer loyalty out of IAH. Particularly after having a taste of the T-7's.

checkmark  that is part of the reason...I know people who live in Houston who had no clue whatsoever that PK even served their city...in fact, I know PK employes who's own family didnt' know PK served their cities..now that is pretty sad...

also, 1x/weekly doesn't help their cause, especially given the aformentioned CO/EK double daily to IAH-JFK-DXB-Pakistan...

if PK offered the service 3X/weekly and really advertised it, I think they could do well....

or what they could do is interline with another carrier to ORD/JFK/YYZ and drop the route completely....

with LAX, I think they will try harder and the Southern California basin has a large Pakistani population...so they should do well.... crossfingers

I'm no airline business expert--but its my opinion that you'd have to be pretty inept to not make a route to LAX work with that population base. Let's hope the cargo on the flight will bode well for IAH--I know I will enjoy spotting it.

Well hope they do and at the same time advertise well also. How is the population in S.Cali as compared to Bay Area? Any chance for SFO then ?

thats why I have  crossedfingers ...with PK, one never knows....

I guess it will be nice to watch a National Air carrier flying in a 3 decade old rustbucket......I certainly would enjoy watching one come it and departing... Wink

actually, many of my relatives live about a mile away from KHI, so I've been fortunate to see those rustbuckets many times.... biggrin

IIRC, Bay Area Pakistani population isn't even close.....the Indian population here is huge! LAX is definitely a better plan..

I think the only way one would see SFO is if PK use 5th freedom rights, and probably a smaller and more fuel efficient plane...

LAX will probably go transpacific, though I think they should LAX-MAN-Pakistan, especially KHI, given the amount of increase in traffic....
