Hey guys,
I wish to write about my story. Not too great but ah well. A week ago I went on a treble choir trip with a large group and we were headed for philadelphia (NJ first for a dinner cruise). We were on the highway and we got in some traffic. During which I read a sign that said Newark Airport. I'm pretty sure this is newark anyways...i was talking to friends a lot so i might have been a little off target. But the traffic cleared up and we came to this big airport and on the right side of the coach bus i could see a LARGE portion of the airport including a runway view! An active runway, too!   I was screaming cuz i was so excited! This was a great view! So i smooshed people and moved them aside and i looked out the window. I could have sworn i started to drool. lol. The best part was a CO 737 was landing and it touched down as we drove next to it! It was great!! AND i got to see the thrust reversers open! I was quite a happy camper. My friends thought i was crazy. I suppose i am? That's my story. I saw the Millennium CO, NWA DC-10, Virgin 747, CO 737, DHL 727 and that's all i remember. But it was great! Hehe sorry...gone a little overboard.

Ahh yes, the best part of the NJ Turnpike, that was Newark, and I can't drive that stretch for fear I'll hit someone b/c I'm not looking at the road.

That would be the New Jersey Turnpike between Exits 13A and 14.

Glad you liked EWR.

That DHL 727-100 (really) is parked right next to the highway all the time. We refer to it as "the toolshed". Just sorry you didn't see any Kiwi or Pan Am 727's... we sure do miss them!

Newark Terminal A

If you haven't been to Newark's Terminal A lately, Continental has oozed on in! They now occupy the entire centre satellite (the A-2 gates) having pushed US into the former Kiwi/TWA gates in A-1 (for which CO holds the leases). TWA now only has one gate.

The former TWA lounge will become the USAir club, and Continental will take over the USAir club in A-2.

Yep, that's the Turnpike. I tried to pace a British Airways 747 while on there, but didn't quite keep up.

Hey, glad to see alot of fellow NJ/NY people here on!

That is a great view from the turnpike. It's incredible when you get off the turnpike and when you're waiting in line to pay the toll and they are routing planes directly overhead of the exit. Boy are they close!

EWR is my hometown airport, and I fly out of there all the time. It's even a better view from the air! Manhattan looks very pretty at night when it's clear.

I've been working at EWR since 1983 as an aircraft mechanic. I work at the FDX facility there which is located at the exteme southern end of the airport. I'm in 7th heaven since they finished the runway extension for runway 04L because it and its active taxiways run next to our gates. I've got a terrific vantage for
watching planes takeoff. During lunch, I often take my sandwich and park adjacent to 4L and watch them takeoff.
Sometimes I'll go onboard one of our layover a/c facing the runway put electrical power on and do some listening on the VHF comm.
The employee lot (lot F) is located just beyond the threshold of rwy 4R and there is also excellant spotting there depending on your parking space. Sometimes the widebodys are real low taking off and what an awesome sight it is as it passes overhead.
The quickest way home for me is to hop on the Turnpike at 13A and go south, but the airplane fanatic I am, I drive to the north end of the airport and hop on the Turnpike at exit 14 so I can drive past the runways just one last time on the way home and perhaps catch a favorite plane lanbding or taking off. What a life!
You're only as good as your last departure.
