With Virgin Express they already have a low cost arm. New routes wouldn't be that big news that they'd need to call all staf and new aircraft certainly are not on the horizon. If anything, my guess is that a new corporate identity will be revealed due to the fusion of VEX and SN.

Keep us up to date, if your friend has more details.  Wink

Tomorrow should see the new CEO's strategic plan revealed. It can contain anything from more/less routes to more/less aircraft and a decision on the future form of the group's two airlines.

I'm afraid we'll have to wait until March 30th to find out.

Wow... my friend also said that they were talking along the lines of an amalgamation of both airlines because of V.Express being combined with SN
Though no new US routes they are trying to push EBB as much as poss now they have competition from KL and BA...

even worse they dropped GLA at the beginning of this month - now have to go way out of my way to Charleroi to get a flight to bloody PIK also miles out of the bloody way .... adds hours to the @#$@%# trip

anyway , back on topic ... my money is on it being a new identity for the combined SN/Virgin Express entity

Apparently, it will be a single brand centered around two AOCs. Management isn't quite ready to deal with the labour issues that need dealing with if all aircraft operate under a single AOC, such as merging seniority lists, different pay scales at the two carriers, etc...

This being said, the two airlines are already pretty much merged behind the scenes. Several departments already overlap both carriers (accounting, HR, public relations, etc...) and while other departments are still duplicated, they have the same head, such as sales or route planning, or for that matter the CEO.

Is it SNBA into Virgin...or Virgin into SBNA....

Great new name " Virgin Of Belguim"...a rare sight I believe... rotfl

The news may also include Fleet Modernisation.

SBNA with its BAe's, RJ's and Airbus with Virgin's Boeing's, maybe they'll go for the A318/A319.

Whatever it is...GOODLUCK FOR THE FUTURE

Regarding BRS flights, SN uses to reduce their frequences during school holidays (2weeks in april, july/august,...). They usualy keep 10 freq/week or so.

As for tomorrow announcement, I mainly expect the rebranding to be revealed, as SN got at the time of TV take-over, 2 years to get rid of VirgEx's brand. It's time to bring to market the new brand !

Cheers,

By the way, I was making a few searches for flights to Spain this summer with SN, and their booking tool doesn't show anymore code-share flights with IB on BRU-MAD. There are only a couple of daily flights proposed.

To the contrary BRU-BCN seems to stay like it used to be, 3 daily IB flights. Sounds strange...

I remember having read a couple of month ago that SN was about to start cooperation with Air Madrid (code share on south american flights,...). Any news on that front? Would this be linked to the end of IB c/s on BRU-MAD?

And to finish about SN news, I received an email from them a couple of weeks ago, announcing the full refurbishing of their A-330, to be completed in may. New seats in Bizz and so on. But appart from that email, I haven't seen much of a news about that. Has anybody more details on that subject?

Would be fantastic drop the A319 and go 737 and then order the 787 to replace the A330 ..... however the A330 is doing a superb job for SN so.

Just told, it will be one brand name SNBA.

They are competitors on some routes for the moment so in the future sn will provide also low cost tickets (a certain amount of their seats). They will use the free planes to penetrate new routes.

IIRC ET is to start services to BRU soon via CDG. Seeing how SN codeshares with just about anyone starting services to BRU, SN could end up codesharing with them aswell.

Tinkerbelle,

Here's what I found on the website of Brussels airport.

nvluchten van Brussel (BRU) naar ADDIS ABABA (ADD)
Vluchtnummer Dagen Vertr. Aank. Type Geldigheid
ET751 -2-4-6- 21:15 07:20 763 0506-2810

Lijnvluchten van ADDIS ABABA (ADD) naar Brussel (BRU)
Vluchtnummer Dagen Vertr. Aank. Type Geldigheid
ET750 1-3-5-- 23:20 07:55 763 0406-2710

Lijnvluchten van PARIJS CDG (CDG) naar Brussel (BRU)
Vluchtnummer Dagen Vertr. Aank. Type Geldigheid
ET750 -2-4-6- 07:00 07:55 763 0506-2810

Looks like all 3 weekly flights will be going trough CDG on the inbound and outbound flight. Flights will be operated by a 767-300 and have a ground time of 13H20 in BRU.

I think it could make sense to get rid of the 3 odd A319s if they're more expensive lease offsets any operational benefits over the older 737s. Since I hear here and there that some Avro's are just sitting doing nothing, it could be a good rationalization option to return the A319s, even if a 733 or 734 had to be added. One problem would be the lack of cockpit commonality with the A330s but if one or two units are to be added in the not too distant future, then the A319 pilots will have a job anyway. Sabena used to fly the 733 to BEY, CMN and TLV so it should work if TV's models have the same range spec.

In the future (apparently that is like 5 years from now at least) I'd like to see the longhaul fleet renewed. Surely the 787 with its wider than A330 section would be ideal for SN and their important cargo fold, they could even put a 9-abreast economy and a premium economy at 8-abreast in that thing.

It would be a very special heart warming sight to have a 737 wearing the S-tail again!

Let's wait for the news! Anybody knows the timing?

One thing is for sure: there is finally some news from the front of SN Brussels Airlines and it would be high time for us to have some insider news!

Probably relaunching the company, doing away with the Virgin brand as their agreement to use the name has expired and to give the new airline another name, like Air Belgium or Belgian Airways.

Hem, seeing how things are going in the country, I wouldn't bet on branding anything with the word Belgium in it.

Best case: it would still mean the same country in say... 10 years.

Likely case: there would still be a country called Belgium but there would be another one called Vlaanderen who wouldn't bear anything branded as Belgium, not very good for an airline which would want to seduce the apparently higher yields of the Flemish.

Worst case: there wouldn't even be a Belgium left with the other things called Vlaanderen, Wallonie, Brussels or France for that matter.

If there´s a real "big" announcement i´d rather expect they will announce a substantial order on long-range a/c. And that´s most likely to be the A 330/A 350 despite the general concerns of ILFC/etc. against the A 350...
Next to this also a standardisation of their european fleet would certainly be a significant change although e.g. the passengers are very popular with the AVRO´s...
Maybe they´re announcing new african destinations and probably looking towards asian ones???

I would not really expect a full "merger" of the 2 brands SNBA/Virgin into a single one now!
Both airlines are still focused on different targets and are working quite well in line with each other!
Maybe in the long-term planning they´re considering a merger but not now.
I miss the sound of rolls royce darts and speys

I'm starting to think these claims were either misleading or the date was wrong...

But I do love SN, the one time I flew with Sabena it was great! I love the A333 and their service was really good too.

Hope the announcement, when it happens, is a good one!

Hi,

Summary of what I heard on a belgian radio this morning :

- SNBA and Virgin express will eventually be merged, leaving one single brand.

- The Virgin Express brand will be dropped, in favour of the SNBA brand.

- The biggest problem with the merger is the integration of payrolls (different salary and seniority levels).

- The european network will be based on the low-cost model of Virgin Express (it is said that the current cost base of SNBA is too high to compete effectively on european routes).

- The african network will continue to be based on the SNBA model.

Source : news of RTBF (La Premire) radio.

Announcement to the staff and media this morning.

Virgin Express-SN Brussels merger
Fri 31/03/04 - SN Brussels and Virgin Express are to merge into one new airline. The name of the new airline has not been announced yet.
The two airlines were already part of the umbrella organisation SN Air Holding. Throughout 2005, both companies have made their networks compatible. They are ready to become one company now.
(picture Belga) SN Brussels was founded after the bankruptcy of Sabena. The airline provides flights throughout Europe and Africa.

Virgin Express has its principal seat in Brussels National airport. The budget airline offers cheap flights to destinations all over Europe.

The new airliner will aim at the target markets of both Virgin and SN. It will continue to offer budget friendly flights with no extras as well as full service flights.

The personnel of both airlines is to be informed on the matter this morning and a news conference is scheduled later today.

HI ALL....

Just a quick apologie to everyone !!

I was at work when my SN rep came in to talk to me about a client and told me also about the annoucement, afterwards I thought Id share it with my friends here on airliners.net and in my haste put tomorrow... which in itself was wrong as it was Wednesday, not Thursday.

Secondly I admit putting 'tomorrow' in a subject can lead to confusion on specifics etc...

So Im sorry for any confusion guys... heres to a great future for SN !!

Is a new name realistcally an option ? or is it just hoped they will ?
Im thinking not...
Only because if you think of the HUGE cost involved in changing all their logo's letterheads, signage, uniforms, documentation etc etc

Do I think the SNBA name could have been a little thought out more ? perhaps..
does it work ? Yes.. so why fix something that isnt broke ?

Im thinking SN brussels in the future will become more and more well know simply as SNBA.... Im think along the lines of QANTAS..TACA..KLM these airlines dont use their full name on their fuselage or documents (at least I dont think they do on the documents) but they're reknowned for their shorter name..

Well, just my opinion

Leaks are starting to spread some info on Luchtzak, although none is confirmed as we don't know anything from the press conference nor have an official press release on www.brusselsairlines.com yet.

- Longhaul fleet of 4-6 220 seaters (!)
- Narrowbody fleet of 13-16 (little or no expansion, probably better utilize)
- Regional fleet to stay at least until 2010 (that's only 4 years)
- Own operation across the Atlantic (?!)
- One plane fits all: Business, Flex Eco, Low cost
- One single all-new brand (not SN Brussels Airlines nor Virgin Express), Sabena?

An announcement of total fleet growth of up to 5 units over next couple years: given the above figures we're looking at up to 3 new long haul mixed with up to 3 new narrowbody.

"The existing brands Virgin Express and SN Brussels Airlines will disappear," Burrows told a news conference.

He said the aim of the yet-to-be-named airline will aim to become "the natural first choice for travelers to and from Belgium. We will aim for and be satisfied only with a market share of at least 55 percent on all the routes on which we operate out of Brussels."

He said the company aimed to launch the new airline in April next year.

sounds like we still have to wait a while for the new name .. let the speculation begin - there are only twelve months to put your ideas forward before we find out for real
