DL Medallion Boarding

Thu Mar 30, 2006 4:16 am

Im a DL Silver Medallion traveling to LAX using my Delta SkyMiles in May. I also redeemed a ticket for a friend and we will be traveling together using the same confirmation number. My question to the fourm is will he be able to go through security and pre-board with me using my Medallion status or will he have to wait in the line with the non-medallion passengers?

I dont think so. even though you may have the same confirmation number, you have different ticket numbers. ie you will likely be zone 2 or 3 and your friend may be 5. but i am sure the gate agent wouldnt mind. ive done the same when traveling with friends.

No for security (Silvers don't get to use the priority security line unless in F; I don't know how strongly LAX enforces this - all the times I've travelled DL out of LAX has been on the late red-eye to ATL, so everything else (BOS, JFK, MCO, CVG, earlier ATLs) had already left, so I just breezed through in about 2 minutes.

As for boarding, you can pull them up into your zone...I've done it several times when travelling with non-elites.

If you're in the same PNR the computer should automatically seat you together, and generally parties are automatically put in the same zone. I highly doubt a gate agent would tell him to go sit down if he was boarding with you.

Silver Medallion does not get security access lines on DL.

If they're on the same PNR then they'll be boarded together in whichever zone the lower member resides in, therefore if your friend is not medallion, you may be stuck boarding in their zone, or face boarding seperately.

Well as long as I've been a Medallion ( a few years already) the DL "Medallion Guide" said that only GMs and PMs could go through the security line. Even then however, they let me through at LGA and JFK. Possiblt because it only says "First class and Medallion" on the line...instead of "First class and Gold and Platinum Medallions"...the people who check your tickets before getting on the line barely speak English, so they might not have known the difference anyway! Eithery way, I think that the priority security should be for all Medallions...

Oh i agree with you on that one. It's horrid at CVG where I fly almost weekly. They're ridiculously strict at that airport.

On another note.... I am GM. when you get your boarding pass, it will say Gold/Elite. Elite is for skyteam purposes. but when I travel on CO, I can always get through security using the CO Elite Access line. The people just see Gold/Elite and dont bat an eye. just a tip.
