EasyJet On-line Check-in

Fri Mar 31, 2006 5:33 am

Hi,
I just got an e-mail from SqueezyJet saying that on-line check-in is now available at GVA! Great, but it doesn't say when the flight opens for on-line check-in. Check-in from the Kiosks is only +2 hours, does anyone know if the same applies for on-line check-in?

I've searched their site, but couldn't find the answer there.

It would be great if I could check-in on-line 24h (or more) in advance, but suspect ...

You can check-in on line at any stage, and as early as you like, once the reservation is confirmed. The only stipulation is that you adere to the minimum on-line check in deadline of 2 hours prior to the scheduled departrure time. I've included a link below giving the details.

Remember though, online check-in designates you as a Group D for boarding (i.e., that last group)!!!

Thanks - I was searching for on-line check-in and got no hits. Any idea why Group D - that IS a disincentive! Realise that may be difficult to manage otherwise, but I would have thought they would encourage this!

Really? That is rubbish! even FR don't do that!

Hardly an incentive to save time and staff time!

Good news - I'm flying GVA-NCE on Tuesday, I'll give it a go.

Yes but that only seems to matter at LTN where they have designated cattle-pens. At French airports its a complete free-for-all, so who cares.

I didn't know FR had lashed out on something as luxurious and whimsical as online check-in.

I had the chance to use the online check-in for a flight from BSL to HAM.
Then it was still in the test phase. With the booking I've checked in and got Priority D; can't understand why they do that. You save them money bay checkin in online and they punsih you with the worst boarding priority!

Anyway, no problem in BSL at the security, but when boarding, the lady at the desk had no clue that online check-in is available; had to do a phone call, but then it was ok. Same in the aircraft, the juice-pusher hadno idea about online-check in and asked again and angain for my boarding card. he made a call too and then it was ok for him too.

I think finally it will work great. I can'tunderstand that priority boaring system from EZY; free seat selection worksfine with others. In the worst case, you as online check-in-guy get punished by having no chance for a seat of your choice.
Aircraft are marginal costs with wings.

Well as JGPH1A says, they don't actually enforce the rules at 'French' airports - which includes Geneva. As they mumble their announcements in the background all the non-Brits make a rush for the gate, while the Brits (those who are not in A) stand around and make nasty comments about those 'who don't know how to queue'. Bristol is a 'little' more civilised but still most people ignore the priorities.

Whilst I agree that would be nice if you check in online, with free seating it isn't particularly fair for those who have especially got to the airport three hours before to secure a low number, then find that actually loads of people have checked in already and you're in boarding group D.

Also, if you buy your ticket and check in online two weeks before travel, you would already be at a disadvantage just because you booked closer to the date than someone who bought their tickets months in advance.

Makes sense to me really, but only in the free for all seating airlines.

Cheers,
Noel

Well, if I make a booking on BA today, for a flight in 6 months time I can select the actual seat (Yes, realise there are no guarantees). If I try to book for tomorrow, I will likely find my favourite seat (2C on an Airbus) will be gone. By booking in advance I'm likely to get the seating that I want.

While on SqueezyJet the criteria seems to be based on if I show up at the airport and be standing at the kiosk exactly 2 hours in advance. If I get there three hours in advance, I have to wait for an hour. If I show up 40m (or whatever the minimum is) I'm going to be in D.

So why can't Squeezy assign boarding priority based on date/time of ticket purchase? Seems to make sense to me.

On shorthaul BA, this is only possible if you're in Club Europe. If you're in economy you can't select the seat until you check in online at 24hrs before the flight.

I ended up using the online check-in for my BRS-GVA flight, but when I saw I'd been given group D for boarding on my boarding pass, I threw it away, checked in at the airport and got group B. I won't be bothering with U2's online check-in product again until they sort that out - it's total bullshit. I'm doing them a favour and saving them a ton of money using online check-in, the least they can do is not actively inconvenience me by giving me such a crap priority.

Mind you the whole boarding priority thing is such a crock - when they take you out to the plane on a bus, the whole thing becomes a crapshoot anyway, just stick close to the doors on the bus, doesn't matter what your boarding priority is, you get on first anyway. Grow up Easyjet, the WN-style boarding priority thing only works if you're prepared to stump up for jetways - just accept that if you're offering self-service check-in via the web or kiosks, there is NO ADDITIONAL COST involved in offering assigned seating. A lot of other LCC's offer preseating (B6, FL, Globespan), and it doesn't seem to impact their turn-round times.

I'll be travelling on Thursday and I won't be using the on-line check in. However since Squeezy doesn't have any check-in counters at GVA I'll be using a kiosk.

What's in it for us Squeezy? At the moment 'diddly-squat'!
