PA @ IAH And TPA Circa 1982

Fri Mar 31, 2006 10:41 am

As has been discussed frequently on this site, Pan Am's purchase of National in 1980 was an attempt to create a domestic route network/feeder system for PA's int'l ops. National appeared attractive to Pan Am because of its high market share between PA's two primary bases of New York and Miami as well as its newer fleet. Pan Am inherited from National major operations in Houston and Tampa (Miami was really the only hub for NA) as well as access to more cities in Florida and the Sunbelt.

According to the June 28, 1982 PA timetable, here were the flights from IAH and TPA.

IAH (all flights daily unless noted)

Fort Lauderdale 2x
Fort Myers 1x
London 1x
Los Angeles 5x
Mexico City 3x
Miami 3x
New Orleans 2x + 1x additional weekend flight
LaGuardia 2x
JFK 2x
Oklahoma City 1x
Orlando 1x
San Diego 2x
San Fransisco 3x
Seattle 1x
Tampa 3x
Tulsa 2x
West Palm Beach 1x

At various other times between 1980 and 1982 PA flew from IAH to Jacksonville, Phoenix and Sarasota

TPA (all flights daily unless noted)

Frankfurt Tu Only
Houston 3x
Kansas City 1x
Mexico City 2x
Miami 5x
New Orleans 1x
Newark 1x
JFK 2x
Oklahoma City 1x
Orlando 2x
San Juan 1x
Washington-DCA 2x

At other various times between 1980 and 1982 PA flew nonstop from Tampa to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, West Palm Beach, and Paris

Interesting. I still don't have any PA timetables to sort through, but I've been meaning to find some. I appreciate the scheduling help for UA in MIA.
