Aircraft Disappearance In Brazil

Sat Apr 01, 2006 2:10 pm

Details sketchy at this point, but from what I have heard, a turboprop aircraft belonging to an airline called TEAM (?) has disappeared from radar screens while on a flight from Macae to Rio de Janeiro Friday evening. (31/03/06)

The Brazilian authorities say the aircraft had 17 passengers and a crew of 2.

Efforts are focused on searching the area around Saquarema, about 100km from Rio.

Sorry, I have no link at this time.

It's a LET-410, prefix PT-FSE.

TEAM Fligth 6865 from Macae to SDU. SAR efforts suspended over night due to low visibility conditions.

Hope they find survivors.

Edit: flight took off at 17:19 and ETA was 18:02 local time.

From the Comcast.net users site:

Quote:

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - A plane carrying 19 people disappeared from radar screens Friday night and had not been found more than six hours after it was due to land in Rio de Janeiro, civil defense officials said.
The small double-propeller plane belonging to the local Team airline went missing after leaving the city of Macae, 110 miles east of Rio de Janeiro, said Roni Alberto de Azevedo, a spokesman with the Rio de Janeiro State Civil Defense Department.
The plane was carrying 17 passengers and two crew members.
Local media said rural workers in a mountainous region between Macae and Rio de Janeiro reported hearing an explosion after a plane flew very low overhead.
Brazilian airport authority Infraero said the plane disappeared near Saquarema, in a mountainous area some 60 miles east of Rio. There were no reports of severe weather where the plane disappeared.
Rescue workers sent to the region found no sign of the plane, more than six hours after it was due to land. Authorities said the area was remote, however, and that it could take hours to find any wreckage.---Associated Press

Sao Jose dos Campos (SJK, home of Embraer).

That is where I pretty much live when I am down in Brasil every year. Besides my trip to MAO and BVB every year as well.
