No surprise here, but AQ and HA have added quite a few interisland flights begining June 9, 2006. Here are the increases I was able to find by comparing flights in the reservation systems:
HNL to OGG:
AQ: 14 to 20 (roundtrips)
HA: 18 to 22 (roundtrips)
HNL to LIH:
AQ: 15 to 16 (roundtrips)
HA: 14 to 18 (roundtrips)
HNL to ITO:
AQ: 9 to 10 (roundtrips)
HA: 9 to 9 (roundtrips)
HNL to KOA:
AQ: 11 to 13 (roundtrips)
HA: 10 to 12 (roundtrips)
***HA also has 2 daily roundtrips from OGG-KOA and 1 daily roundtrip from OGG-LIH which are not accounted for in the total below.
AQ: 49 to 58 (roundtrips); 12,446 seats to 14,986 seats
HA: 51 to 61 (roundtrips); 12,546 seats to 15,006 seats
Some news articles about the flight additions:
It seems Aloha might still add some earlier and/or later flights to OGG and/or LIH. BUT, we are still far from the peak in interisland flying in 2000-2001 when HA and AQ were each running over 30 daily roundtrips HNL-OGG...a testament to how much the market has shrunk due to the increase in direct flights to the neighbor islands from the mainland during that time.
