Virgin Nigeria Plans: BEY, BKK, CDG, FRA

Sun Apr 02, 2006 4:32 am

I was reading this article about the launching of services to Dubai in May and it mentions future destinations planned are Beirut, Bangkok, Paris, and Frankfurt.

http://www.ttnworldwide.com/Articles.asp?Article=5354

It's good to see they will be expanding in Europe as their only destination in Europe at the moment is London.

Bangkok will be their first Far East destination, so they will be entering new territory.

It's good to see they have plans for Beirut also.

Regards

Most likely A340.

It's the only aircraft in their fleet that could operate any of these four routes.

Good luck for VK
Lagos-dakar cost $750 + tax.
ET/MS can fly you to BEY for under $800 wonder how much they will charge
Next destinations, Suarabaya, beirut, paris, Accra

At last MEA will have some competition on the West African route. It will only be good.

At the moment from
Accra- ET,EK, MS(Also via european destinations)
Abidjan-RAM,ET,EK(Also via european destinations)
Lagos- ET,MS,EK,(Also via european destinations)
MEA charges about $980+tax to west african destinations while ET charges about $500+tax.
I think demand between BEY and west africa is saturated.
Next destinations, Suarabaya, beirut, paris, Accra

Why cant Virgin Atlantic start BKK before Virgin Nigeria does?

Interesting to see that Graham Keddie didn't mention service to India, which was originally on the drawing board. I guess the market is too small to absorb another carrier as Bellview Airlines (Nigeria) operates two weekly flights on the Lagos-Mumbai route (767-200ER).

Interesting to see BKK show up there. That will be a first direct link to West Africa for the region. I wonder if the route will be operated nonstop or, more likely, with a stopover in DXB.

For the time being, Emirates is carrying a large part of the traffic between BKK, KUL, SIN and CGK and Lagos. After EK come the European carriers - plenty of traffic still goes via Europe. When Air France was still operating here in CGK, they had a special check in desk for onward connection passengers to LOS only.

Is there really demand for flights from Indonesia to Nigeria???

The article definitely makes BEY/BKK/CDG/FRA appear as an afterthought. It hardly sounds like a top priority, more like a wish list.

I remember when RK started ABJBEY. Granted, RK was RK, but they slashed fares, scared the crap out of ME, and then dumped the flight in the end.

Is there really that much demand from BEY to LOS that isn't being served on existing routings? I doubt it.

I disagree. The way they worded makes it sound like they intend to serve those destinations in the future.

They will do their homework. If they don't think there is sufficient demand for a 2nd carrier to operate the route, then they won't launch it.

I won't claim there is enough demand for them because I don't know. I haven't done the research.

I don't know if MEA agrees with you.  biggrin  I suppose folks in MEA are not too glad to hear about getting a competitor on their lucrative West African market.

More than likely yields, consider 4 airlines are serving this route right now, BR, TG, BA and QF, VS is wise to use their valuble LHR slots for other cities.
