No More Iberia's 747-400 From July 1st?

Sun Apr 02, 2006 6:44 pm

The current status of Iberia's wet-leased 747-400 was discussed here on airliners.net recently: Iberia B747-400 Still In Service? (by Falcon flyer Feb 19 2006 in Civil Aviation)

According to the timetables on Amadeus, the current IB's 747-400 routes to TFN and HAV will switch to Airbus 340-300 starting on July 1st. Can anyone confirm this?

Does this mean that the lease contract with Air Atlanta will finally end? And that more Airbus 340-600 (2) will join Iberia's fleet? There are currently 11 in IB's fleet, according to the mentioned thread.

It's sad that there we won't see any Jumbos anymore in Iberia's fleet. The remaining two are TF-AMA and TF-AMB.

By the way, Iberia has this coming week special fares, you can get a roundtrip ticket on this plane (MAD-TFN-MAD) for just 58 Euro + taxes (for example on Saturdays), so maybe I will consider a flight on this 747.

And the brand new Air Europa's A330-200 will be flying....on the HAV route.

TF-AMA and TF-AMB would go to Oasis International Airlines of HongKong.

The wet lease contract with Air Atlanta will finish at the end of June.

Instead a new contract has been signed with Audeli for the operation of 2 A-340/300. They will be flown in the same routes. These A343's come from the current IB fleet and will be operated by Audeli pilots and cabin crew.

In addition to those planes, the whole fleet of B-757's will also be operated by Audeli again with their pilots and cabin crew.

This means Iberia is firing around 250 FA's with a temporary contract. Also around 50 pursers will start flying as FA's again.

All this happens because no agreement has been reached between Iberia and its unions.

Sad news.

EC-JOH was just delivered to Iberia the other day so that makes the A340-600 fleet now 12.

This is a shame. I tried to get the IB 744 MAD-TFN-MAD flight, but I can't do it without having to overnight the day before (Friday)  Sad.
Are there any other short-haul widebody IB flights from MAD to somewhere other than TFN ?

LPA is flown by the A340-300 and sometimes the A340-600.

I guess that explains the could-hardly-be-worse attitude of most of Iberia's cabin staff.

This is what I didn't want to see happening. If I pay to fly IB then I WANT to fly IB...not Audeli. I gladly put my safety in the hands of experienced IB crews but not on Audeli's.

Thank God I am flying to UIO and back before the end of June. I wouldn't be amused at all if I was going to fly IB longhaul beyond June 30 and upon bording the A343 I saw the "Operado por Audeli" titles next to the aircraft's door.

Do you know which are the A343s that will be handed over to Audeli?

I am serious when I say that if this is going to become "the norm" then I'll choose another carrier for my longahul flights.

The whole fleet huh?. No 757s in IB's colours for me then.

Wow!! what a great way to cut costs!!...whose idea is this?. What about those "high rank" executives at "Velázquez 130" that do nothing but to warm a chair and read the newspapers?. There are more of them than aircraft on IB's fleet, and their salaries are an insult to many other employees.

Seriously...this guy Conte and his "colleagues" are getting on my nerves.

I see strikes coming up for the summer season (I hope I am wrong, although I would understand the reasons).

When I booked my flights to UIO a few weeks ago I was about to choose KL because I wanted to try their MD11. In the last minute I decided to choose IB again, maybe because due to the fact that my mother is flying with me and the trip with KL could have been too long for her (she hates flying).

I hope I won't have to regret my decision.

One of my Flight Instructors from South Africa had just been recalled by Air Atlanta to fly those 744's for IB when I was there last week. He was due to leave SA this weekend for MAD.

Guess it's only going to be a short deployment for him then !!.

Is Audeli the equivalent of Jalways is to JAL?
I am not very familiar with the Spanish market but TFN & HAV seems like an leisure heavy route.

So there was a chance that IB744 could of come into UIO? Now what? I never heard of these AUDELI operators. I hear IBERIA and its IBERIA. Weird...
