New international flights

Tue Feb 16, 1999 9:23 am

As some people were talking here about new international flights, here is an overview for upcoming changes in the airlines' transatlantic system.

1-United airlines will add a second daily Chicago-Paris flight, and will serve Boston-London for the first time:

UA922/UA923 ORDCDG in B767-300
UA998/UA999 BOSLHR in B767-300

2-American will open a Los Angeles-Paris flight, and reopen its JFK-Frankfurt service:

AA140/AA141 LAXORY in B767-300
AA126/AA127 JFKFRA in B767-200

A proposed Chicago-Amsterdam service has not been programmed yet.

3-Delta will add flight to Athens, Istanbul and Barcelona from its Atlanta Worldport, it will now serve Dublin and Shannon from its JFK hub with its own aircraft iso through code-sharing with Aer Lingus, and it will re-instate seasonal Cincinnati/Frankfurt and JFK/Rome service:

DL024/DL025 ATLATH in MD11
DL040/DL041 ATLIST in MD11
DL114/DL115 ATLBCN in B767-300
DL134/DL135 JFKDUB in B767-300
DL086/DL087 CVGFRA in B767-300
DL034/DL035 JFKFCO in B767-300

Delta is closing its Warsaw station, and already stopped serving Seoul. Also plans for Osaka service have been postponed indefinetely. Delta is expected, though to open service between Atlanta and both Rome and Milan, as well as between JFK and Venice, following an open skies agreement between the US and Italy.

4-Continental will add Zurich, Brussels and Tel Aviv to its european destinations, served from Newark:

CO078/CO079 EWRZRH in DC10-30
CO060/CO061 EWRBRU in DC10-30
CO084/CO085 EWRTLV in B777-200

It has previoulsly opened service to Tokyo from its Newark and Houston hubs. It has abandoned plan for a Cleveland-Gatwick flight.

5-Northwest Airlines is to open a daily Minneapolis to Oslo connection:

NW098/NW097 MSPOSL in DC10-40

6-Lufthansa is to open service between Frankfurt and both Detroit and Philadelphia:

LH442/LH443 FRADTW in A340-200
LH426/LH427 FRAPHL in A340-200

7-Sabena is expected to announce a Brussels-Washington Dulles flight soon. It will furthermore increase existing frequencies between Brussels and Boston, Atlanta and Chicago O'Hare.

8-Aer Lingus is to open a thrice weekly Dublin-Los Angeles connection:

EI145/EI144 DUBLAX in A330-200

9-Austrian Airlines is to start 2 weekly flights between Vienna and Montreal Dorval:

OS505/OS506 VIEYUL in A310-300

10-Swissair will start operating its Dulles flight with its own new Airbus instead of with Austrian Airlines equipment. The flight will operate under a new flight number:

SR128/SR129 ZRHIAD in A330-200

Furthermore the unlucky Geneva-JFK flight will be renumbered again to

SR138/SR139 GVAJFK in MD11

After the accident this flight had been renumbered to SR114/SR115 but if you add those two numbers you get exactly the number of people killed in the SR111 crash.

11-Turkish Airlines is to announce service from Istanbul to Miami, in A340-300.

These are some of the upcoming changes I am aware of. Please add others you know...

Hey there,
Just wanted to add that UA is also adding a second daily LAX-LHR as of 4/5/99. Also heard -rumour only- that as part of the Dulles expansion, we will see a new daily IAD-Berlin flight.
