Some Airlines View A350 As "Timid" Response

"[M]ainline carriers like Air France also are scratching their heads over the Airbus approach. Two airline officials suggest the carrier views the A350 as a timid response with little market potential in head-to-head competition with the 787. Both note that only carriers embracing the Airbus cockpit cross-crew commonality, or those looking for production slots where Boeing can't offer any, will be drawn to the A350."

Sheesh, this is one report of bad news after another, Airbus needs to do something, or the sales of the A350 are going to simply fade away......

Perhaps the A350 supporters within Airbus can persuade Mr. Al-Baker to reiterate QR's "commitment" to the A350 (firming its order would be nice as well), preferably with an accompanying statement emphasizing why QR doesn't share ILFC's concerns about the aircraft.

This article doesn't only deal with the A350 but also about the condition of the Airline Lessor Industry. The Lessors are critical of the long term investment in the A350 and U.S. Legacy Carriers.

What about when a US legacy carrier buys the A350?  scratchchin

What I was getting at was whether they would be more critical of a US legacy buying the A350. If you are critical of both individually, would the combination of the two be even worse?

If Udvar-Hazy hadn't "dropped the dime" on Airbus about the prospects of the A350, the only buzz out of Orlando would've been about his comments regarding the U.S. Legacies.

I thought UH's comments were nowhere near as bad as they were made out to be on this forum. And I think they were on point--and I disagree with the notion that he should not have made them publicly. This is a little bit different, but the message is the same: Airbus is not offering anything new.

As for the US Airways deal, let's just say that it was an agreement of convenience. US certainly needed the funding, but lost the opportunity to realistically evaluate longhaul fleet replacements and Airbus could claim another order for the forth incarnation of the A350. Four years from now, if US is still around (and it probably will be), it is doubtful that anyone will remember how this order came about.

Is US scheduled to be the launch customer for the A350? I remember hearing that somewhere.

I'm not one to prefer A or B. I happen to like both. In saying that, the A350 seems so similar to the A330. Perhaps AF was looking for something a bit more innovative. The 787 certainly seems more fitting of that category.

Seems like Cathay is really interested in 787-9 and -10... Cathay, as an Airbus buyer in recent years, going to the Boeing's camp. I think Leahy will have a hard time sleeping... (shall we drug him up?? Just kidding!)

I doubt he'd be getting much sleep anyway, as some have speculated that he's leading the "palace revolt" to rethink the A350.
