What's The Deal With Australian Airlines?

With the ever increasing groth of QF's other subsidery Jetstar, (obvious with the news of it aquiring the first of QF's 787), what will happen with all 767 fleet Australian Airlines?

Is there still life in the beast?, or is it a dead subsidery walking?

They serve different routes. Jetstar serves domestic routes (plus Christchurch, NZ) while Australian connects major cities in Australia to Bali, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan.

Hey Afterburner,
You need to keep up with the program, Jetstar will be flying many Intl routes with initially A330 and later with the first of the B787 ordered last December.

To answer the initial question.. likely be allowed to wither on the vine which is a pity as it is a good product for it's market. Biggest problem is the high labour costs(IMHO), brand is good and well regarded in some markets.

I just looked for a NGO-SYD flight with AO in Feb. 2007 (just as a simple exercise) and the fare is ridiculously high. Does anyone know why this is?
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

The logical guesses being made at the moment is that as JQ is going international, the loss making AO will be gradually closed up with JQ replacing eventually. No announcements have been made to this effect though, it's the assumption.
I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!

Its dead, Qantas just need to work out the best time to tell everyone.

I would expect to see Australian Airlines stick around until Jetstar International start up.

When we finally get the news from Qantas it won't be a big surprise.
Why fly non stop when you can connect

I'm really sad... I'ive flown with them CNS-SIN back in march 2005, and it was really a good carrier, with a very good cabin staff. I would even rank their service slightly better than QF's.  Sad  Sad

I had chatted with the Senior Purser who told me AO had a very cool small group of F/As, and that the athmosphere inside the company was better than at QF.

All my support to the 40 fellow cabin crews who will lose their jobs.
