Years ago, codeshares meant that a carrier bought seats in bulk from another carrier and marketed them for re-sale. But could some of you insiders shed some light as to the mechanism of codeshares in this day of massive alliances. For example, if I buy a DL ticket for a biz-class ticket from BOS to CDG on an AF aircraft, what does DL have to give AF, what does it get to keep?
And if there is a mix of carriers, ie. DL (or any other carrier) takes a passenger on its aircraft to a city where the passenger connects to another carrier (like KE or OK etc.) how do they determine the fare split?
