At LH you can check-in online, but still need to stop at airport check-in counter to pick up your boarding pass, which is kind of stupid. More: checking in online you don't get a chance to choose a seat, but a seat is simply assigned to you - kind of stupid also!

Isnt it odd that JL dont have it as with their high density flights they could really use online check in, Ive never been to Japan (hope to go oneday) but Im thinking they must get heavily congested in the terminals..

AC has a completely different (better) system than that. You can check in online, print out your boarding pass at home and select your seats from a map. You can even do upgrades, or standby for an earlier flight. I tried this two days ago and it worked flawlessly. The only thing I didn't like was that you can only checkin 12 hours prior to departure. Should be 24 hours or something.

Considering that as recently as 2004 Aeroflot was using handwritten boarding cards at some stations I am hardly surprised. Also, many Russian/CIS airports require one to go through security BEFORE check-in, so I can only imagine how they would deal with online checkin.

Also, is BWIA a top airline?

As you listed Air Malta and Cyprus (and more) airlines as "top", I can add a few others to your list:

MA: no, but expected to introduce until oneworld membership
JL: same like MA
Royal Jordanian: no
AI: no

AC has a very efficient system, which allows you to print the actual boarding passes at home. Pretty neat stuff, if you ask me.

Wasnt there a system while the concorde (RIP) was still in service where you could actually check-in at some train station and have your bags taken? It was BA, for the record.

Well I know a lot of these airlines are heavily international, where you need to check in in person. Of course they have domestics as well, but most of these are primarily international, which is probably a factor.

Qantas does not have it either. They do, however have kiosks and quick check in facilities at the capital airports

LAN DOES have online check in. In some flights, as those for USA, I think for security reason you don't get to print your bording pass, but you can pick the seat and request special food and stuff,

the LX online check-in is really convenient. since a couple of months, also non-FFP pax can use it. you get to choose your seat from a seat map and with the home-printed boarding pass you can go directly to the gate.
