More Boeing Jets For China!

Thu Apr 06, 2006 8:20 am

April should be another good month for Boeing! At least 80 new 737s for China!

So if it is at least 80, I wonder what potential there is for more? I'm hoping for some 748s...

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/04/05/business/china.php

"Hu will visit the United States from April 18 to 22. "

"China last year had a $200 billion dollar trade surplus with the United States, a record trade gap for Washington."

"The biggest action is on the trade front, with China expected to order at least 80 new Boeing aircraft, mostly single-aisle 737s, government media reported."

This is the second part of that original 150 plane order. China evened it out to give 150 more orders to Airbus (which Airbus then immediatly counted to win the order race last year)

Could this yield more -900ER orders? Let us all hope.

So can we expect them into SEA or IAD to sign the 737 deal? Let's follow them around the US - could this be them flying an Air China 763 HNL-LAX?

(Although I doubt it would happen, I'd love to see them fly to Chicago to visit Boeing headquarters. A CCA 763 at ORD! Talk about a rarity...)

Exactly! This plane has really held its own over the years. The orders keep coming in... keeping that backlog nice and healthy!  dollarsign

No, it isn't.

Why do people insist on making anything out of the China orders? 150/150 is not a win for anyone. It's just politics. If you look at the haphazard way China disperses it's jets throughout the many airlines it runs, with mixed fleets everywhere, it doesn't seem to have much to do with economies of scale, economics of aircraft, or anything else. It's just a way to disperse all the jets it orders for political reasons.

You can expect an A380 and a 748i order from China in the future as well. But the 748i will only be ordered when it makes sense for Boeing (when a couple other carriers already have orders as well).

We have different definitions of "victory" in this case. I see the order tally climb (for whatever reason) for the 737, and I think about those lads in Washington State building them, and think -- "...good one! Keep the backlog plump..."

I would reaaly like to think that it's a win for both A and B...... 150 planes is not too bad.

So what is in your view a victory? Politics is involved everywhere and its not exclusively with China. If the 737 was maintenance hog, and has a high incident rate... I am sure they would not buy it. So when you say its not... I wonder what is?

Look, this is a win for Boeing, for the 737 line, for the people of china, and the suppliers.

Agreed. It's a victory for both companies together, not one over the other.

Boeing would have had 150 last year, as well, if our President had not made a verbal faux-paux about Taiwan.

I don't think lkramerica was suggesting that it wasn't a win in terms of the manufacturing more orders and thus securing jobs but rather i think his point is with reference to the way China is continuerly playing the manufacturers of against each other and the countries against each other in its political pawn game and is suggesting that nither Boeing or Airbus (US and Europe) wins by being sucked into Chinas games.

On the jobs front it is great news, from a political harassment point of view it could be viewed as negative. The time will come soon when someone will need to stand up to China on the Economic/political front.

Well Air Europa just announced firm orders of 16 737-800s this morning. The 737 line is off to a good start this year, no? Great news for the lads building these babies. What a phenomenally popular plane.
