Weird Experience With Air Canada

Thu Apr 06, 2006 6:27 pm

So I get home from work yesterday to find an answerphone message:

"Hello Mr Marsh-Giddings this is **** from the Air Canada Schedule Change department, just to let you know your flight times from Ottawa to London Heathrow have changed slightly, could you ring me on *** please".

Normally this would have been acceptable, had I actually had a booking with them!

I have absolutely no bookings with AC, the last flight I had booked was YYZ-YOW back in November which we didn't take in the end. We certainly have never even spoken to AC about YOW-LHR - why were they ringing?

I rang back this morning and was told "Oh sorry sir we made a mistake and shouldn't have rang you".

My question is, A) why did he ring about a flight I wasn't even booked on, and B) having mistakenly shown me as booked, why were they then managing to tie my name up with my telephone number as well as linking it to the other booking?

What sort of procedure do the airlines follow for this - is it an easy mistake for them to make?

Cheers,
Noel.

Was the number an overseas number, or was it a local number? I've heard of fraudulent callers who actually try to ring people to get them ring back to number with a country code or area code that does not exist, and costs them thousands of dollars per second when you do call them back.. I do hope that it's AC's mistake, and you're not one of those 'scab' victims.

Getting back to the topic, it could be that they have some mis-organisation within themselves, with an organisation that big, they could easily do that.

It was definitely their UK reservations number. I thought exactly the same at first - the first thing I did was Google the number he gave which directed me straight to AC's website, showing the London reservations number.

Glad to hear that it's not one of those fraud calls. Well, then, it is completely AC's fault.

$1,000 per second????  confused

That seems way too much even for scam artists.

I guess AC reservations might have noticed your unused YYZ-YOW trip and thought you were connecting to LHR.
