Revised Engine Cowling Paint On Emirates?

Fri Apr 07, 2006 10:29 am

Check out the picture I took today of a new build Emirates 773ER on it's first flight (B1)

Look at the engines, the newest bird has 'gold bands" along the cowlings...is this a way for them to denote that it is a 36N/ER as opposed to their normal 31H/ER?

Looks like it's just miscolored panels to me.

I agree. Looks like it'll be painted in the proper color scheme once it's delivered

but if they were mismatched engine cowling why would they be painted gold, and with arabic writing. I would understand if it was an unpainted cowling that had been fitted, but it wouldnt be gold, and certainley not with the arabic titles...

I agree that the No. 2 engine cowling just needs a coat of paint and that the gold is just primer. Looks like the No. 1 engine cowling is a solid color.

I think if they wanted a "gold band" they'd actually paint around the whole engine, not just 2 seperate panels.

I agree. If you look closely, you'll notice some titles on them. Judging from the Arabic titles and the colour of the engine panel, it looks like they're using part of an engine panel from one of EY's 77Ws.

Good eye, LTU...that is indeed an EY cowling:

The right engine has some darker panels than the rest is.

I would say it's not normal for the future as the left engine seems to be normal white.

Sorry, just couldn't resist it!

But definitely Etihad cowlings as LTU932 said. Don't really know why though.. did Boeing paint one Etihad cowling too many??

Maybe they had a spare which was previously painted in EY colours, and used that one because perhaps the original panel from the EK 77W was damaged.
