More Long-haul Low Fare Competition?

Fri Jun 09, 2000 11:03 am

I've been reading about JetBlue's new non-stop service (ONT-JFK, OAK-JFK), and I think this is going to start a trend by low fare carriers desiring coast-to-coast non-stop service.

I know Southwest says it is in the point-to-point, short-haul business. The fact is, though, that their hauls have been getting longer and longer (OAK-BNA, LAX-BNA). You can now go 1-stop across the country on Southwest.

My prediction: WN will be offering non-stop flights across the country before the year is finished. Look for BWI-LAX/OAK or PVD-LAX/OAK before too long. Hellloooo low fares.

Just bring some food along!

Hello All,

I agree! WN is more than likely burning the midnight oil these days preparing to counter the "new" airliners that are knocking on their door nowadays. WN has a great thing going, as does Jetblue and Airtran down in ATL, however they have come along way from the 70's and serving three cities. WN has the a/c to go coast to coast, the faithful paxs, and ofcourse the all important marketing team to get the job done.

This could be the start of something great for the coast to coast business traveler!

We could do with low fare transatlantic flights, like in the days of Freddie Lakers Skytrain. No frills, if you want a meal you buy it or bring a packed lunch.

Imagine sitting in the Southwest "jumpseat" and staring at somebody all the way across the Atlantic! LOL...

Seriously, though, I wonder if WN or JetBlue would start Canadian or Mexican service...
