Interesting posts - but I have the opposite opinion: should DL
fail (and we are all hoping that they do not close down), SkyTeam should really have no problem going forward. SkyTeam has three US airlines as members: should DL
would continue providing presence in the US (one must also assume that if DL
should fail, CO
would expand their flying in some way on both domestic and international routes, and if DL
would fail, NW
would quickly get itself out of bankruptcy); CO
already has a strong presence on trans-atlantic services that would indirectly replace DL
, same on Latin American routes, and DL
is not a key player in the Pacific.
There of course would be many issues to resolve, with one airline replacing the other on certain routes and code-share deals being re-written, but I do think that SkyTeam would go forward.
As I said, lets hope that it does not happen.
