UAE Air Service Agreements

Sat Apr 08, 2006 5:56 am

If I am right, air service agreements are signed by the UAE in general, and not by the different emirates. So if the UAE signs such an agreement in which it gets x flights and x seats into another country, how will it distribute these rights among the different emirates?

Does any list exist with all the air service agreements the UAE have with other countries?

Well for a very long time this was not an issue as EK was the only real player. Now that EY and G9 are in the picture, there seems to be some jockeying for position going on. For example EY jumping into Canada (arguably before they really had the equipment to do so at the quality level they would have liked) effectively locking EK out until the UAE-Canada bilateral is reworked.

I don't think there is a bidding process or anything like that between the UAE carriers for new destinations. This is something that I imagine will cause some conflict in the long run. While the UAE is very stable and cooperation between the individual emirates is great, pride is always factor and this seems like something that could cause problems in the future.

I believe EK didn't want it as it wasn't available as a daily slot and there was no guarantee for a daily in the future...

AS Etihad is as well expanding at a high rate of speed, I believe as well that sooner or later there will be some conflicts. But there must be anything to regulate this.

EK pig-heads on a power trip as usual. I'm not surprised.
