WN Ding! Fares

Do WN Ding! Fares have anything to do with how well a certain route is performing for them? I was wondering if bookings are low for a certain route, is that when WN puts that route up on Ding?

My Guess is yes, however I have seen DING fares for 34 one way STL-PHX, and PHX is one of the top markets for SWA at STL with 6 daily. So It might be just random cities at random prices.

DING used to be quite cheap, but they have gone up quite a bit, but you can still find some nice surprises.

I saw that as well, but I played around with the dates because my parents were wanting to go to PHX. There was lonly two or three days where they were offering that fare. So my guess is that the ding fares are for days/routes that arem't filling up. So they lower the fares to create more demand on routes that seats would otherwise go out empty but who knows.

Just about every airline does this. When a particular flight isn't selling, they lower the price until it starts filling up.

I've noticed as of late that there are certain days of the week when the Ding Fare is available, as opposed to 7 days a week (for instance, travel Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays only). I've also noticed that the pricing listed may have a range, as opposed to just one price.
It would be very logical and revenue practical that certain city pairs are put on DING to drive more demand by price level. It's interesting that SWA can also now do this by day of the week of travel.
