UA Emplyees Please Help.

To any UA employee I am flying out of ORD on TED flight 1587 on 4/12/06. I know it is a A320 but could I get a REG number on it please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not even the airline knows the specific aircraft that will be until often the day of the flight.

I will look up the "tentative" or planned" aircraft and get back to you later on Monday. They are generally in the system 2-3 days out for an A320.

For security and per company policy regulations, I highly suggest NOT doing that.

That is fine. I am on the level here. Ijust wanted the info so I can explain that to my 9 y/o son the age and engines etc.. He is a future A. netter. He at the age of 6 or 7 could tell a md-82 on final approach by the landing lights.

Are you out of your bloody mind, man? Seriously. This may be a legitimate request, and even is probably a legitimate request, but why even slightly risk your job and this flight's security?

Oh come on now. You have got to be kidding me. How does knowing the aircraft number pose any risk to the flight whatsoever? I would honestly like to know, because I highly doubt that information has ever made the difference between a safe flight and one that is targeted. The only people concerned with such things are the pilots, schedulers, caterers and airplane geeks. I think terrorists pretty much would say "okay it's that blue one over there."

Terrorists at say, Dallas Love Field, will see a lot of blue ones, any of which could be Southwest flight 1234. But if they could tick off tail numbers as they flew overhead, and knew which tail number corresponded to flight 1234...

It's a valid concern these days, as are all security-related concerns. Security through obscurity is not security. There is a reason these policies are in place, and it's not to keep nine-year-old airplane geeks in the dark.  Wink

Doesnt matter, its still company confidential information. Everything in Skynet, Expressnet, and Unimatic is tracked by username/logon, if the UA Info Systems Division wanted to see who couldve released the information, while it would be a bunch of data, they could whittle the data down.
Nobody screws you better than an airline job!

Oh the horror if they KNEW which tail number corresponded to which flight!!!! Hmmm, isn't flight arrival information available online? That would probably be a more efficient way of determining when flight 1234 will arrive, vs standing out at the airport all day and waiting till the planes are close enough for you to even READ the tail number.

Not to mention listening to ATC.

Exactly. A bunch of (ex-)a.netters have gotten in a bunch of trouble over this.. don't do it. Most cases result in termination of employment and often lead to federal investigation. Although I don't really understand the exact concern, it's not that hard to get a general idea of why. It's a major security deal.. just don't mess with it.

...and this is why I really do not post much at all anywhere! We are talking about a Tail/REG # on an A320 with Ted painted on the side going from ORD-LAS on a Wednesday in April. Does it really matter which one it is? Is that a knock at my door? I hope it isn't the Aircraft Tracking Police! It looks like they have already have the Peter Max guy, the Pink Song guy and the Delta Ship 102 info release violators in custody. I better hide my Nuclear Missile keys before I open the door. UA security to whittle down that data, right...

Myabe they know it for that day, but I am more then positive it wont be the same a/c doing the flight the next day... Besides, theyd need a WN employee to be at the ops center to find out that plane and to be able to pick out a rego from a plane on approach is pretty amazing, i cant do it until i click the shutter and review.... Which by that time the a/c is happily at the gate and the next load of cattle is hoofing aboard (to all WN lovers, im kidding.  Wink )
Doors open, right hand side, next stop is Springfield.

Probably. At 9 he can have as many typo's as a few of us adults.

I knew I should have waited and just tried to write the tail number down at the gate. I DO understand all of the security and I respect the reasons behind it. I also know giving the information probably will not hurt a soul. But I can wait until I come home on the 19th. I do not want anyone getting in trouble and possibly losing their job.
I have seen the load factors for YX posted on here and I believe that is more dangerous than the tail #'s.
Well I will look forward to the information in due time. And if the person wants to email the info feel free to do that as well.
