Boeing To Sign $5Bln Order Sell 80 Planes To China

Mon Apr 10, 2006 1:56 pm

Found a little snippet on Bloomberg:

" Boeing to Sign $5 Bln Order Tomorrow to Sell 80 Planes to China
April 10, 2006 00:50 EDT -- Boeing Co., the world's second- largest commercial aircraft maker, will get a $5 billion order from Hainan Airlines Co. and seven Chinese carriers tomorrow for as many as 80 planes, airline executives said."

Yet more good news for Boeing if the report is accurate. But I wonder if this report isn't a bit of a 'double-take'? Boeing are already showing several 2006 orders from Chinese airlines (including Hainan) on their orders site, and I've been assuming that some of those are part of the 80 outstanding 'commitments' from last year?

Catch me if I'm wrong, but isn't it Boeing's policy to not publish orders on their website until the customer decides to announce the order?? If that would be the case, these orders won't post on Boeing's website until tomorrow, at the earliest, if the article is true in saying the order will be signed tomorrow.

I guess we'll find out soon enough. Either way, kudos to Boeing!!

Please be more 737-900ER's within this order. I hope some US carriers get this plane. It would be funny to see SW or airtran get some. Im sure they could fill them up on some markets.

It was 70 from last year of which 50 were firmed before December 31 2005. The remaining 20 of the 70 are what Boeing has booked and listed on their site year to date 2006.

If these 80 are signed tomorrow this will be final confirmation of the 150 GTA announced in November of 2005. So these will be new orders and listed when Boeing negotiate and receive the final contract from the respective Chinese carrier.

There is no "double-take"

Thanks for the breakdown of which airlines will get how many. Too bad that it doesn't mention which versions it'll be, though in all likeliness, most will probably be 737-800s.

Maybe if AS exercises its options on their order for 737's, it could include some -900ER's or -700ER's. Likely??? NoT!

Thanks DAL767400ER for actually posting on topic.

We won't know until they are signed and on Boeings books, however, expect the bulk to be 738s as you stated. There'll be some 73Gs too but there is a very good chance that Shanghai Airlines will take some 739ERs as will Hainan. I have no link to substantiate that, so at this stage, it is my un-sourced opinion.

You're kidding, right? This was in The Wall Street Journal like two months ago. The only thing missing was the specific date it was to occur. Now we know that date.

Just assume it will be just as non-sensical as the current placement numbers of various aircraft around china, so there will be 73G, 738, 739 in various numbers. And they'll fly in the same airline side by side A319/A320/A321 even if the airline only has 5 or 6 of each.

WN could fill many different types of aircraft but they DON'T fit into the profitable business model. A 737-900 would require an additional flight attendant and therefore does not fit the profitable business model for WN.

So we should see these 80 on Boeing's Thursday orders update, just like Airbus did last Jan?

One would argue that if Boeing did the same thing Airbus did, they would have put the orders up many months before that.

But yes, I suspect that we will see thoose orders as soon as pen goes to paper and check to bank.
