While I had never heard of this specifically, this is not really a surprise. Alaska's lifeline is the airplane and they really take advantage of them. This is a very cool service to see, but those pizza prices are pretty damn stiff

People are funny.

I've seen 6 steaming hot pizzas from Northlake being shipped counter to counter on AS, SEA - LGB.

I actually had some Airport Pizza last night and it was very good  Smile They have a great product and are able to fill a unique niche in the market.

Also, its not that uncommon for people in Nome to order fast food from Anchorage and have it delivered to the airport and have it gold streaked up here on Alaska Airlines.

Wonder how long it would take for them to get a pizza down here to Hawaii - the pizza here sucks and is still overpriced!

Been there done it.

There was one time when I was ramping out in the bush where we took some 200 McDonalds Hamburgers off the plane from Anchorage to go to a high school basketball game in another village where they where going to be sold as part of a fund raiser.

Sounds like a familiar tune: Oahu is not home to Krispy Kreme donuts whereas neighboring Maui is. The Maui (Wailuku) KK shop is conveniently located about a mile from OGG and is frequented by local freight companies that arrange for pick up from the store and transport to OGG where they are then loaded on the next AQ 732 flight to HNL where they arrive fresh as jet fuel!

That sounds like a really great service, though the prices are a little steep for my pocketbook. *Sigh* supply and demand and all that. I wonder what would happen if they start getting DiGiorno up there, lol.

My one question: do they put those little light-up cartop signs on the planes?  wink

It's not often that I get hungry from an A.net post!!!  yummy  That's a really great story though. But I can't imagine that the pizzas arrive piping hot, what can you do though?

It isn't a particularly long flight, only 170 miles. Also, you would be amazed how long one of those hot boxes can keep a pizza warm

Especially if it's warmed up with a little carb heat once they arrive.  wink

I wonder if they got ahold of some of Domino's HeatWave (god, I hate camelcase) delivery bags? You know, that was their biggest promotion for so long and then...does Domino's even use them anymore? Ah, well, off topic...

Kind of weird, I was just thinking about that the other day....And no, I don't believe they do use them anymore.

Pretty commonplace . . . as you mentioned - Alaska's lifeline is the airplane. I've had pizzas flown out to soldiers at Black Rapids Training Area near Fairbanks before - in a Blackhawk . . .

Used to get stuff shipped to Skagway from Juneau all the time when I was a child . . . Skagway Air Service and their Piper Cherokees didn't just deliver the mail and people!  bigthumbsup

Actually, the bag in the photo looked quite similar.

Such a great analogy to compare fresh Krispy Kremes to fresh jet fuel. Totally makes me want some.  Wink  yummy

When the first McDonald's in Southeast Alaska opened in Juneau, each of the outlying towns, all the way down to Ketchikan, organized 'BigMac relief flights'. Planes were loaded up each weekend with fries, BigMacs and Quarter Pounders, and out they went. Skagway & Haines kept it going at least through the summer of '82.
