I beleive it is/or was the seasonal DTW-PBI service.

MSP-AUS is 1037 miles and 2 hrs, 40 mins. NW973 and NW974.

MSP-MSY is 1040 miles. NW856.

Yep. DTW-MIA is 1145 miles. NW1974.

I am on vacation here at PBI and I was spotting earlier today and saw one parked at the terminal. It took off later. Was that for DTW?

I don't know about MIA, but in 2003 NW was running at least one DC-9 a day (and maybe more) DTW-FLL.
