Picture Of UA93 On CNN.com Doesn't Look Right

Thu Apr 13, 2006 12:28 am

The picture on the CNN.com homepage of United Flight 93 fragments doesn't look right. Where would UA have orange and red paint on their planes? Is this an old file picture that CNN just threw in there?

Their old livery had orange and red stripes, no?

yeah, but wasn't Flight 93 painted in the newer (not the newest blue and white, but the blue and grayish blue) livery? I could be wrong though.

Yeah, the orange and red is *much* smaller on the '90s livery that the 9/11 airplanes had (compared to the '70s-'80s livery), but still there, whereas the current livery gets rid of orange and red altogether. On the '90s livery the orange and red can be found on the cheatline separating the grey and blue portions of the fuselage.

Looks right to me. Seems to be a close up of a VERY small piece of the fuselage -- you can see the blue on the bottom and the gray on the top between the stripes.

To answer your question:

The registration # for United flight 93 was N591UN.
Here's a picture of that aircraft taken on Sept 8th 2001 (3 days before the tragedy)

As you can see, it still had the livery that matches the one found in the crash scene.
I hope this answer your question.

Wow... it's so odd to a picture of that plane right now. I don't know about you guys... but i got a very ghostly, disturbing feeling from looking at that picture.

I'd just like to point out that even though CNN do seem to have got it right, the BBC didn't, they showed a graphic of what looked like a 767. If I'm not mistaken, UA93 was a 757. Anyway, my point being, when have the media ever got it right when it comes to aviation!?

Rgds.

I saw the preview for Flight 93 at the movie theater this past weekend, and one shot of flight 93 taking off was an A320/A319, I don't know which one, but it was clearly a plane with winglets and the Boeing 757 that was fllight 93 did not have winglets.

Looks like they will be showing what the ATC were feeling too. I'd hate to be on position that day.
