Airlines To Charge For Aisle Seats?

Thu Apr 13, 2006 8:09 am

I heard from my uncle, who is an ex Delta 767 captain, that U.S. airlines would be starting to charge a 15$ premium for aisle seats. He also mentioned them charging for carry-ons and pillows. If anybody knows anything about this your input would be great. Thanks!

NW already does. $15 for an aisle or exit seat. It's a very popular program.

AA may not have been "charging" for aisle seats but they do "block" those seats for last minute travelers, who pay a premium for last minute bookings.

That's a little misleading... On the 9s, for example, there is only 1 aisle seat that is sold for $15 (6D), and on birds with 2 Exit Rows, one remains for premium pax.

AA also allows AAdvantage members with gold status or higher to book these seats.
