What is the main visual difference between each cockpit design?, apart from the general layout of each, it is the colour.

(Russian=blue/aqua,
Boeing=cream/brown,
Airbus=gray/blue)

I'm aware now that most cockpit 'colour schemes' are universal, however how did it come to be that each airline manufactures presented theirs in these different styles?

Boeing for the B737s still use the grey shade.

I'd be more surprised if all manufacturers painted the cockpits the same. Maybe Boeing had a spare bucket of brown paint once and then declared this colour standard, as well as Airbus had a bucket of grey and in Central Paint Dispatcher in Soviet Union they've had a barrel of bluegreen?

I had heard that the Russians actually did studies and found this color to be less stressful or something like this. They have the same color on their fighters too:

The green is a bit in your face but I heard that the reason for the green was so that the pilots could see the instruments better. Looking at the Boeing cockpit, that looks more relaxed and as for Airbus, well they were just too dull to paint the cockpit any kind of bright colour.

A tiny bit off topic but has anyone else noticed that the paint in the cockpits is scratched off especially on the yoke, must be all the pilots with rings on their fingers.

Why are all the wires hanging out of the panels on the BA 757, which is shown in the thread starter.

I like that cream/brown color Boeing uses, especially on the 747-400 and 777. However, Boeing might be going back to the gray for the 787. I wouldn't invest too much stock in the credibility of this picture though since it is only a computer rendering.....
