LAS (Vegas) has a spot on the south side of the field where you can pull up in a parking lot and set your radio to an FM station to listen in on live ATC.

As posted above, I use Liveatc.net also

As a sidenote, you will not be able to get any ATC communications from any UK airports. Apparently it's illegal to broadcast them.

All you have to do is a Google search for "Live ATC" and several sites will come up, including the afore mentioned, www.liveatc.com , which happens to be a really good one.

www.liveatc.com

Just a slight correction... as HarrisAir mentioned, it is liveatc.NET. The .com site is just a search/link page.

As mentioned, you can use any of those sites. But, those are only for amateur spotters!

If you're a REAL spotter, you will have your own Air Band Reciever (scanner) which allows you to control which freq you go on, and it is very portable compared to a computer. BTW, could you just see someone pull up at a spotting place at an airport with their computer!?!?!?

To get the whole "picture" If you find, not only tower, but ground control, approach and departure control(s) you can follow the flight in or out. Just listen to the assigned frequencies as the flights are handed off and program them in. There will be several at an airport that is busy enough. You can even go as far as the in route center that they are handed off to (after appx. 10K ft), if you scanner is sensitive enough. Again there will be more than one. Eventually, you will have the whole thing built in.
